A good choice for a short stay. Adequate rooms and nearby shopping and bars, restaurants etc. a short walk to the city centre. I would book again

The staff at the Hotel Zi are very compassionate and very kind; they do their best with what they can, as far as resources, the property, and managing the behavior of numerous guests and unpredictable issues. That said, there are small carpet stains and damage to the walls which require paint and some work along the baseboards. Though it was a non-smoking room, from the moment I stepped off the elevator and began walking toward the room, it smelled as if I were walking through a smoke filled hall to get to the room and it was like this each day I was present; the odor was quite offensive. Upon check in, for which I am grateful staff was very, very friendly about allowing early on a Saturday at 2pm, I learned the TV was not connecting to any services. They tried to switch my room, however the same problem existed in the other room, too. The hotel was unable to resolve the issue until mid-morning Monday, and also shared that there had been other guests who reported the same connectivity issue. Finally, I tried the buffet style breakfast one morning and it was completely cold and the toaster was not functioning, either. The front desk manager later explained that the person in the kitchen is new and may have forgotten to press the buttons to keep the food (eggs and sausage) warm or to plug in the toaster.
Finally, there was also a guest who played music so loudly it echoed from his room and down the hall and through the walls. Soundproof? Not so much.

Do not recommend

I dont know how to start this review. We booked 4 nights via booking.com. the pictures and ammenities presented looked decent plus it was located in a central area. We had arrived in the city and we needed a place to stay for 4 days after the place we were supposed to stay cancelled hours before our arrival so we basically had no many choices for same day accomodation. Well, booking.com should be ashamed of having this place as one of their listing 1st of all and then no even cancellation oportunity even though we said we will be leaving sooner they had no option to cancel starting the next day. Well this plaace made us even change our schedule as we felt so uncomfortable there we had no choice but leaving sooner. No AC which is normal in Europe but then if you open a window and you dont smoke , your room will smell like cigarette in a sec as the main street is full of bars and people smoke so imagine those smells comming up. The room was not clean at all, sheets stained with different " unknown things" carpet as well stained and smelled awful. People that work there wete not too willing to help honestly. The fan was not even working we had to go to the front desk to request for a new one and they brought one full of dust. I mean this place would not be even operating as a hotel in the US, maybe a motel and for the prices thet charged us for 4 nights !! Plus the moment we arrived they gave us our room keys, once we went upstairs 1st thing we found was the door fully open , everything was untouched but imagine you get to your hotel and your " room door" is open. Very weird situation. No mini fridge ,no safe to store your valuables. I mean this is def a 0 to me and believe me , i am usually very ok with whatever. This place turn you into a "Karen" even though you dont want to. Dont go !!

The disappointment was great

The anticipation was great when we booked our 5 rooms for the Christmas market trip to Karlsruhe about 9 months ago. The pictures of the rooms and also the reviews were consistently promising. Unfortunately, the hotel did not live up to these expectations during our stay, yes you really have to say we were bitterly disappointed. The gentleman at the Check Inn counter was the first of the staff to leave an overwhelmed and layperson impression. After about 45 minutes we still had our room cards it was however only 1 room ready to move in, which was basically not bad because we arrived at the hotel shortly before 11 am. We stowed our suitcases in the room and left. The drama only really started the next morning, 08:30 we met for breakfast together. The tables were not set and partly also Dirty the buffet was almost empty there were only isolated items that were only refilled after we drew the attention of the next overwhelmed and lay staff. Even the next morning didn't get much better now the self-service coffee machine was practically out of order all the time due to a malfunction and no staff present could change that as no one knew how to do it. The buns were hard and otherwise no bread available even the hygiene did not improve, with horror we had to watch how the freshly washed cutlery was touched at the top and so conceded. Furthermore, our rooms were not cleaned once during our stay (3 nights) which led to the toilet paper, the cosmetic towels ran out and our small trash cans overflowed. Also, the towels were changed only after request to the staff.
For these reasons, the hotel is more appearance than being and certainly not recommended.

Just don't book!

Unfriendly male receptionist, we should be patient, there would be a lot going on right now. Other guests have been given the key to an occupied room. At night, the receptionist suddenly stood in our room. They say he knocked.
Right in front of the room all hell was going on all night so you couldn't sleep.
In showers, the hand shower came off and the water splashed through the bathroom. It's best not to look too closely at the corners. The 3. Bed was a disaster!
At breakfast on Sunday (the female force is probably off on Sundays), there was almost nothing more ... No cutlery, no rolls, no cheese... The coffee machine did not work for a time...
And a receptionist who just talks his way out and smiles at our complaints
P.S. Best to bring your own toilet paper
