Very friendly and welcoming hotel.

A very warm welcome awaited us by the owner Andreas, we were 9 tired and weary motorcyclists but we the bright and quirky decor of this hotel soon cheered us up.
The rooms were large and tidy, our floor had it's own kitchen and seating area.
We decided to eat and drink on site rather than walk in to Colditz since we would do that in the morning, Andreas provided schnitzel chips and veg along with a selection of beers, all at an extremely agreeable price.
Andreas spoke little English so we were fortunate to have a German speaker in our group, he was quite happy to talk about his time as a border guard and chat about our touring.
All in all a very friendly place at a very good price, don't let the brightly painted exterior put you off, this place has character.

Smoking shi. hole

Booked two nights. But after turning up the place was a horrible tobacco smell. Downstairs was so bad my lungs would not take it. Got shown to room. That was a bit better. But we left and found some other hotel at a loss. But would never be able to be comfortable. And dogs barking the time we sat waiting to check in. Dissatisfied Don’t go if you are a non smoker.

Quirky & probably not everyone's taste

TBH I don't know how to rate this, as we loved it here (stayed 4 nights) but I can understand it wouldn't be to everyone's taste. Our room was fine and the ensuite was of a wet room style. Breakfast was ok, but very, old fashioned German style and the rolls weren't fresh every day, but it was adequate and at €100 per night for a triple room we didn't expect caviar and champagne.
The communal areas are like an old DDR Museum and a free blick into the areas Cold War past. Others have mentioned the owner's attitude and the cigarette / cigar smell. The patriarch ( Grandad) is indeed an acquired taste, but we didn't find him offensive, the rest of the family are fine, but struggle with English; so I can understand that if you have no German (or Russian) Comms won't be easy.
And yes, smoking is allowed in the communal areas; which if you can't accept then avoid.

A Word Of Warning…

A friendly word of warning before you book this hotel.
The small communal kitchen area outside our room smelled strongly of cigarettes, which found it’s way into our room - fine if you are a smoker (we are not).
The pillows and bedding are very thin, however to be fair we did sleep ok.
Although there is limited choice of accommodation in Colditz town, I am sure there are better but more expensive options;
I suppose as always, you get what you pay for.

Handy

Me and my friend stayed one night while visiting colditz castle we found the place clean and welcoming we had a bit of a language barrier but our room was clean and comfortable the breakfast was really nice we had an evening meal as well which was good value and tasty it has a car park and a bar what's not to like
