Great hostel, friendly staff and nice rooms
Comfortable beds, nice rooms and great pool- female dorm was friendly and lockers worked well. Carlos was extremely accommodating and friendly even though I made multiple mistakes about the booking! Location is close to the beach and great street food.

2 nights stay in Playa Del Carmen ☀️
We spend 2 nights with my friend there and the owner is just the best ! Always available to help us and offer some solutions to our problem.
I really recommend this place if you’re looking for something really familiar and nice for a small stay.

Not for backpackers!!
I had a really bad experience at this hostel. The place is nice and well located but service is horrible.
The person who did my check in the first day was as nice as a jail door.
Secondly, I asked for a little discount for the breakfast that I can never take because of my diet, but none was accepted. This is quite common but shows no flexibility. Then, there is no common kitchen.
But the very bad part was that the day I arrived, it had been raining a lot and since I came walking all my stuff were completely wet. Since I was alone in the dorm I took the freedom of putting my clothes to dry on the structures of several beds (obviously not on the mattressses) and on some furniture since they have no place to dry clothes. I went out to eat and when I came back, all my wet clothes were on my bed. I went to the reception and I was told that I couldn't use any other bed than mine and that there was a laundry right in front of the hostel. I was alone in the room and it was a matter of a few hours for them do try. I'm a long term traveller, I'm not going to pay a laundry service to wash clean clothes that just need to dry. The person was really not understanding at all and quite rude. I left after the first night instead of staying 4 as I had planned. It might be an okey place for short term travelers but definitely not for backpackers.

Not bad but not recommend
I stayed in Red Panda for 3 nights and like it wasn't horrible but I also didn't really enjoy. I had to put my own bed sheets on my matresses and the room was very dark. At least I've got a big locker. But also the door was just open for everyone so sometimes people (staff or others from the hostel) just walked right in. The bathroom was really smelly and if you didn't close the door it went to the room. The staff is nice but not too welcoming - pretty sleepy. So all in all it was a ok trip but would not come back.

Clean, Modern and Quiet Hostel with a Beautiful Pool!
The Red Panda was a clean, newer, modern and quiet hostel located a short way from the main tourist area in Playa. I enjoyed my short stay here!
I stayed in the 8 bed female dorm on the second floor for one night at the end of a two week solo backpacking trip through the Yucatan (March 2020). The dorm had sturdy wooden bunks and comfortable mattresses and pillows. There were large lockers for each person which were opened electronically with a key card! No need to bring your own lock. Towels and sheets were provided. Each bed had two charging outlets next to it. There was AC and a ceiling fan in the dorm for warmer nights. There was a washroom with shower and toilet stalls also in the dorm, which was convenient. Unfortunately, I was not able to get hot water in the shower even after allowing the water to run for a little while. I met some friendly fellow Canadian women in my dorm and everyone was respectful and kind.
I enjoyed the relaxed and laid back atmosphere and quiet setting of the hostel. It wasn’t a party hostel which is hard to find in Playa and it was away from all the bars and clubs, so it was peaceful during the nighttime and great for getting a good sleep. It was about a 7-8 minute walk from the hostel to the main tourist area along 5th Avenue. The hostel was situated in a quiet neighbourhood that felt safe to walk around as a solo female during the day and evening. As for security, the main door of the hostel was locked after around 9 pm so you had to ring the doorbell and the front desk staff would open it for you. They accepted credit card for payment when you check in.
The reception was open 24 hours and the staff were friendly and helpful. There was fast Wi-Fi that worked well in all areas of the hostel. I liked the lounge on the second floor outside my dorm where there was a couch, TV with Netflix, books and a small kitchen area with mini fridge, coffee maker and microwave and some dishes and utensils. There were plenty of showers and washrooms in a separate room, in addition to the washroom inside the dorm. Although I didn’t get to enjoy it, there was a beautiful pool with some lounge chairs on the ground level which would have been lovely on a sunny day. I also loved the gorgeous colourful murals that were painted on the walls around the pool and in the reception! I also heard that the breakfast, which begins at 8 in the morning, was fantastic though I had to leave early in the morning for my flight so wasn’t able to experience it myself. The staff did inform me when I checked out that I could have requested an earlier breakfast if they had known I was checking out at 7 am, so I wish I had asked! I would have loved to stay at this hostel longer to enjoy some of the amenities and would definitely book here again on a return trip to Playa! Thanks for a nice stay.
