Wonderful chez habitant.
It was amazing experience to stay in this beautiful house in Kasba, Tangier. The staff and management were extremely warm and helpful. The breakfast at rooftop was an added attraction, staying here was like time travel. Will get back to this place whenever I can.

I’m an experienced traveler, and for the first time in my life, I had an issue with an accommodation owner. It’s a long story, but I think it’s important to share this experience for the sake of other female solo travelers.
I booked a one-night stay in Tangier before my return flight the next day. I’d been to Tangier before, but my usual accommodation was unavailable. Reviews mentioned that this place was hard to find, so I started asking for clear directions and photos on August 9, using email, the booking app, and WhatsApp. Instead of sending proper directions, the owner sent me a hand-drawn map (not a Google link). I repeatedly explained that I didn’t understand the map and asked for the exact address along with verbal instructions and photos, but they only promised more details the day before my arrival.
Two days before my stay, they finally sent me an address: “Rue Kasbah 5.” I know this street well—it’s a busy one with many restaurants—but there isn’t a property numbered 5. When I arrived, I found other numbered buildings nearby, so I texted the owner, saying I was in front of number 12 and needed them to come and find me. After some convincing, they eventually showed up and guided me to the entrance.
To clarify, the property is not located at Rue Kasbah 5. It’s actually down a passageway you enter from Kasbah, but not near number 5. It leads to some interior buildings that look like two-story houses.
Later that evening, when I returned from dinner, the owner—a visibly upset woman—confronted me, pointing at the map and verbally attacking me for not finding the place on my own. I showed her all the messages I’d sent since August, clearly asking for specific directions. In response, she offered me a better room, which I accepted, noting that it was much nicer than my current space. She then laughed at me.
To provide some context, I originally booked what was described as an “apartment” with two bedrooms and a living room, just for myself. However, it turned out not to be a true apartment—other guests had to pass through my space to reach their rooms upstairs. At one point, I even saw a man in his underwear above my room, and everyone had to walk through my area to come and go. Additionally, the bathroom door couldn’t be locked, and my room door could actually be locked from the outside by someone else while I was inside.
The owner then asked another guest, a man, if he had any trouble finding the accommodation. When he said no, she laughed at me, pointing fingers as if I were crazy. I confronted her about her behavior, and she then offered me a free stay, while continuing to shout. I told her it was fine, that I was tired and just wanted to go to my room (I didn’t upgrade to the private room without the walk-through issue), and that my concerns weren’t about money.
This seemed to push her even further. In broken English, she told me I needed to leave and go to a hotel. I repeated that I was tired, went back to my room, and locked the door behind me. Of course, my “apartment” was still open to everyone, as it was essentially a passageway for all the guests on the first floor.
If I could, I would give this place a zero-star rating, especially considering how the owner—a woman—treated another woman. Wouldn’t it have been so much easier to just send the exact Google location? Or, when she realized I couldn’t find the place, to simply send someone to guide me, given it was only a 7-minute walk?
Also, I want to add: this is not a hotel. It’s a very old house with rooms. It’s not good value for the money, and it’s definitely not worth the stress of dealing with this woman.
After my experience, I checked all the other reviews and noticed that I’m not the only one who had a bad experience with the property owner.

pleasant stay
Place not bad at all especially for its welcome and location.
The rooms are small but with sufficient space.
The privacy is rather Spartan (the door latches do not close or no longer.
the place is very clean. the wifi is laborious. Breakfast is normal without being exceptional. The staff is discreet and helpful
The decoration is a little faded, abandoned objects (lamps ...) hang out on the terrace.

Stylish and authentic guest house
We absolutely loved our stay at Tanger Chez Habitant. Right in the heart of the old town, the views were spectacular, the decor was stylish and authentic and the bedroom super comfy and warm (we were there at the end of November). Noor was the perfect host, preparing wonderful breakfasts, being there if we needed him and a really good source of information when we needed advice. Fantastic, we will definitely visit again.

Delightful
I spent 3 nights here and could not have been mor satisfied. The location is perfect. High up right off Kasbah Street - close enough to walk to Kasbah, sightseeing attractions，restaurants and shopping.
The guest house offered everything I desired - safe, clean, air conditioned, hot showers, nice continental breakfast on the 4th floor terrace.
The owner, Hafida and assistant Noor couldn’t have been more hospitable. Noor walked down the alley to greet me and take my suitcase when the driver couldn’t find the address (driver’s problem not guest house). I was served mint tea and biscuit on arrival, asked my breakfast time preference etc. they were always there to answer questions and provide directions. Noor has perfect English.
The place is small with 3 suites. I was in the first suite which had a double bed (there was a second bedroom I didn’t check).
Lounge and bath with shower. The place has been modernized and has the loveliest rugs which make me want to go buy some!
I would highly recommend if you are looking for something local and homey. I would definitely return-（and I will as they stored my luggage as I travel a week deeper into Morocco with only a backpack). I enjoyed Tangiers and it’s a lovely city.
