Check in was impressively smooth thanks to the gentleman at reception who handled everything perfectly. After a long and exhausting flight all I wanted was quick procedures so I could move on and he delivered.
I dropped my luggage in the room and went down to the bar for a bite. It was simple but actually very good.
When I returned to the room there was a strong mould or fungal smell. Nothing was visible on the walls so I assumed it was coming from the AC and switched it off. I asked reception for another room and the same gentleman immediately helped but the new room had the same problem. He was so polite that I told him I would keep the AC off and manage.
I went out for an hour and came back to find that the bar downstairs had turned into a full nightclub. It was after 1am. I put on my AirPods on silent mode and could still hear the music clearly.
The stars are for the receptionist.

A nice older hotel in a good location
The Caramel is well-situated, in a quiet street just of the bustling Hamrq street, one of the most vibrant areas in Beirut.
It is an older hotel, and would certainly benefit from a general renovation. But the hotel has an informal, quirky character, which may justify the "Boutique" description in its title.
My bed was comfortable and the room had adequate furnishings and bathroom facilities. I did not use the restaurant. Front desk staff were helpful.
This is an inexpensive option in a good neighborhood. I would stay again.

- Horrible Wifi (sometimes non existent)
- Power went out frequently. One night it went out over 30 times, yes 30.
- At check in, no glass/cup/mugs, toilet papers, shampoo, conditioner, soup
- Need to clean better (see pics)
- I requested non smoking room and they confirmed, but they told me I can smoke inside. Therefore it smelled like smoke including sheets and towels
- Shower door leaks
- Broken: electric kettle , toilet paper holder, one of the main outlets
Power went out so frequently they moved me to another room but it still did. After I was moved, they accused me of breaking the lid of electric kettle which was broken when I checked in, as for many other things listed above. Their poor Wifi made my work very difficult. When complained, they did nothing about it. They provided me bottled waters, shower water pressure was great. Convenient location, walking distance to many restaurants.
