Avoid at all costs

Booked via Hotels.com and arrived around 8pm. Hotel receptionist and later owner informed us they would not honour the hotels.com booking 'as expedia take too long to pay them', so we would have to pay them for the room (in cash). Also told that the rate we'd paid with hotels.com was per person and not for the room.
When we tried to fight this were told to leave and find another hotel- whilst at the same time being reminded repeatedly by the owner that Maseru is not a safe city at night. Basically told to either pay in cash or wander the streets and try and find a new place. (Asked to use the wifi to book a new place and they refused)
Owner admitted they do this a lot with online bookings and that we should just claim the money back from hotels.com. (We recorded all this to send to hotels.com)
Room itself was poor- no door (or curtain even) between the bathroom and bedroom for example.
