A well located hotel
The hotel is conveniently situated for restaurants and walking to the night market around the corner. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. I left my sun hat by the pool and assumed it to be lost but the staff on duty had handed it to housekeeping and when I enquired at reception, it was promptly handed back to me! Not sure that would have happened in the UK!
Breakfast is selected from a menu rather than buffet style and there is enough selection to suit most people from fresh fruit to eggs to fresh bread with jam/honey.
The pool is on the rooftop and has a limited amount of sun beds but most people are out sightseeing and only use the pool towards sunset for drinks and watching the sun go down over the Mekong River.
There is quite a lot of noise due to nearby construction but this is not the fault of the hotel.
The rooms are spacious with a large modern bathroom and walk in shower and good toiletries are provided - Shampoo, Conditioner, Shower Gel and Body Lotion.
The bed was comfortable but the pillows are rather hard. The room itself was nicely decorated but the floors and ceilings are plain grey concrete and look quite austere. It would be nicer if these were painted in the same style as the walls. The room had a small fridge and also a mini safe. We booked a half day cycling tour of the city using Tripadvisor and found it was an excellent way to see the city. If we had realised there were better rooms on a higher floor, we would probably have chosen to upgrade as our room did not have a view.

Great 2 night stay
Lovely hotel and excellent staff. We had a very nice 2 night stay here.
Very central with plenty of restaurants nearby. Felt very safe walking out at night.
As per previous reviews there is some noise from nearby construction work.
Breakfast was very good. The pool was great to cool off in after a day exploring.
Would definitely stay again.

Nice hotel in good location
We stayed in the Lao Poet hotel for 2 nights just before New Year's and overall had a very nice stay!
The hotel is nicely decorated with a Lao feel to it & the room was large with a good sized bathroom. It might have been bad luck where our room was positioned, but the only slight problem we had was with noise coming from the road outside. Mostly mopeds, but some shouting too. Of course this isn't the hotel's fault & it was a Saturday night to be far, but you might want to bring earplugs (as we did) in case you are a light sleeper.
The location is great as it's walking distance to almost everywhere (we even walked to Pha That Luang (golden stupa) via the Paxuxai (victory monument) one day, although this is a 3 mile+ round trip or so.
Plenty of restaurants nearby, an ATM (important in Lao as most places only accept cash). There is also a roof top pool with bar service which is nice to take advantage of after a day of sightseeing.
The staff were very nice, friendly & helpful and really went above & beyond to accommodate us, even calling the independent shuttle service we had booked ourselves on to Vang Vieng, to find out if we could be picked up from the hotel & liaising with the taxi company.
Breakfast wasn't included in our room, but we paid US$10 one morning to have the hotel's breakfast & it was very tasty. Eggs to order & a selection of fruit, yoghurts, bread etc. Good value too for a hotel!
All in all we enjoyed our stay & wouldn't hesitate to stay again at the Lao Poet if we are ever back in Vientiane!

Oasis in a very hot city!
I arrived at the Laos Poet after 3 flights from the UK, and it was just what I needed. A quiet space and a really comfortable bed. The building has concrete walls, but all the soft furnishings and the colours really complement this. The rooftop pool is lovely (it only gets sun in the morning until 1pm). The staff couldn't do enough for me, including confirming my onward journey. Its really contral, but on a quiet street. Loved it!
