Stunning mountain vistas from the back of a well-trained horse

I had a fabulous time on a recent 3-hour one-on-one horseback ride at Hacienda Monte Claro with French guide Céline.
Both my horse and the guide's were in excellent physical condition, well-groomed, with good-fitting tack, barefoot, and wearing gentle bosals. Helmets were provided. While they have a fantastic stable, all horses are kept outdoors in spacious pastures when not being ridden.
Our horses were responsive to verbal commands, forward moving, and sure-footed on the muddy and rocky trails. There was no nose-to-tail; our horses walked at least 5 meters apart. We walked most of the trip, but we had ample chances to trot and canter in grassy sections. (The guide first always asked if I'd like to do this--no pressure to say yes).
The views were absolutely phenomenal! You're right at the top of cloud-forest mountains with stunning vistas of nothing but jungle below: nothing man-made in sight. We stopped at a river to rest the horses and have a snack. There, Céline's trail dog showed off many cool tricks for the chance to fetch a stick from the river--very fun!
On the way back, we rode briefly on a stretch of closed road, where the horses didn't have to watch their footing as much as in the jungle. Even there, our views were totally of rainforest.

An interesting concept

Friendly and professional welcome at reception, and at the restaurant.
The concept of lodges, open to nature, without hot water or electricity, 100% nature is interesting, but it rained during the 2 nights we spent in the hacienda, and we could not really enjoy this concept as close to nature.

Lovingly run hacienda in breathtaking surroundings

We stayed 3 nights in an Ecodeck without electricity and hot water - and just enjoyed it. Lots of peace and the sounds of the hacienda, just great. Breakfast took place in the associated restaurant (= living room, there is electricity and Wi-Fi) and was rich and delicious (coffee/tea, juice, scrambled eggs, grilled cheese/bacon, jam and toast). In the evening the restaurant had only one of the 3 booked next on (low season) and we were eating out.
We were greeted very friendly by everyone and felt very quickly at home. We hiked a few kilometers on the hacienda and were swimming in a river. Furthermore, we booked a 3-hour ride. The horses are very well maintained and there is a suitable horse for every riding skill. Our ride took place in the low season with only 2 guides and it was just a dream. Furthermore, we were helped with the Booking Referral of a Rafting Tour.
If you like it quiet and rustic, this is the place to switch off.

An ideal place full of family stories

We spent 3 nights in a beautiful house full of stories and we felt comfortable there. The setting is beautiful, Marie is professional and very welcoming. The place is enough for itself to go 3 days without "moving". Our child was able to take care of the animals (especially chicks and duckling) we visited the "Bénéficio" (coffee factory), took a horseback ride (very well treated)...
A communal kitchen is available to prepare meals and complements the Palenque de la hacienda bar and restaurant.
Thank you again for this stay that will remain etched in the head of our daughter and her parents.

Wonderful stay at Monte Claro

Wonderful stay at hacienda Monte Claro. We had the eco deck where we had a beautiful view of the valley. The restaurant is wonderful and the hostess was very friendly and helpful.
There is also a lot to see at the hacienda: coffee and sugarcane, wonderful hikes.
I would recommend this to friends and family
