Fantastic place to visit

Fantastic place, don’t hesitate, just book it. You’ll have zero regrets. Great atmosphere, food, trails, flowers, the cabins, all of it. Definitely going back.

A little paradise in the highlands!

A great and quiet location, easy to reach from the Pan Americana (you don't need a 4-wheel drive SUV). Great chalets and a good breakfast and dinner (on request). Absolutely natural. The hosts put a lot of effort into it and we really liked it...
Tip: book a Quetzal tour of the hotel with a guide from the area. Get up early (6am) and a 1/2 hour drive... we were lucky enough to see 5 quetzals (this is also an exception there)!
And: the lodge is about 1,600 meters high. Adends it was cool and a jacket is not a disadvantage...

Exceptional, deserved the detour

This little lodge lost in the forest is worth a visit. The owners and their team are absolutely charming, very attentive to how well everything goes for their guests. The chalets are perfectly equipped. The kitchen is delicious, dinner and breakfast. The environment is very pleasant, with a small trail of about 800 meters in the property for a walk in the forest , and very nice hikes to do all around. Hummingbirds and squirrels do the show at breakfast. Quiet and relaxing, a beautiful discovery for a very sweet price.

Great place

Caruba Lodge is a small family run lodge about 2 hours drive from SJO in the central valley. It's about 5 minutes off the main road and feels pretty isolated. The place has cabins dispersed throughout the property with a few walking paths. They have hummingbird feeders throughout and tons of birds (that why everyone comes to this region).
The family is really nice. We arrived 2 hours later than anticipated (8pm) but they kept the restaurant open and made us a nice traditional dinner. The cabins were not luxurious but were quaint and very comfortable with a heater, although hot water was more lukewarm. It is high up in the mountains so it gets cold.
Don't expect a large ecolodge with fancy facilities (like Trogon lodge, our next stay, or Savegre lodge). It was the first place we stayed and turned out to be our family's favorite.
