Perfect beginning
Great rustic bungalow vibe! Met the new owner, Humberto and he was very receptive to suggestions in making updates in the near future . The grounds were beautiful and the location not too close to the town, so very peaceful. Marianna was quite helpful and attentive to our needs. Waking to the bird calls was lovely. Breakfast was served instead of a buffet- 3 fabulous choices.

Ups and downs
As we arrived they told us to pay for the rooms, although we were charged upfront. It was quite hard to communicate that we needed that money back, which finally worked out on the next day.
The houses look very beautiful from the outside, but the inside was not as nice as the view probably promised. We found some ants at the sink and the bed could have been more comfortable. WiFi doesnt work in the rooms and be aware that there are some roosters around that will wake you up several times at night.
After all, it was a satisfying experience, but we would probably choose another hotel the next time.

Not that great
Pros- cute cottages from the outside and nice landscaping, lot of plug outlets, breakfast included, helpful guy at the reception. Close to restaurants, spas, volcano and waterfall.
Cons- room is sketch looking once u are in the room, found ants on the pillow and sink and stains on the sheets, poor lighting in the room, had a fight with the room cleaner on clean towels: our room had a shelf near the sink, but the other rooms did not. We thought the fridge was connected and kept some food inside only to find out the next morning that it was disconnected.

Just the facts! Somone broke into our room!
It's completely up to you to have your own opinion, however, here is what happened to us. We originally booked our two nights at the Hotel Miradas Arenal which is further outside of town and owned by the same owner of this hotel. However, due to a "plumbing problem" we were told there was an issue with our room and we were moved to this hotel. Reluctantly, we decided to stay one night. While we were not comfortable leaving our luggage and valuables in our rental car while we were at dinner we decided to leave everything in our room.
Long story short, our room along with at least two others were broken into while we were away at dinner and an IPad and two IPods were stolen from our room. #10 which is at the end of the row of rooms. Room #8 was also broken into as well as it appeared #9 also had damage to the door.
After several attempts to have the police called the next morning as we did not initially realize the items were missing that evening the woman at the reception desk finally called the police. It was then that we found out that #8 was also broken into not from the hotel but the guest staying in #8. It was also not until then that the receptionist truly wanted to help us.
We refused the stay another night and booked another night at the Volcano Lodge and Springs based on her recommendation. Which we found to be much more secure and very well managed.
We did not pay for the one night stay based on the experience we had and the fact that we were moved to this hotel from our original hotel we booked. Note: We had to contact booking.com to confirm we would not be charged.
After two police reports later we have supplied the serial numbers for our devices and will likely never see them again. I would expect the hotel to reach out to us and offer some form of repayment for these items as they would likely be covered by their insurance however, I don't suspect they will.
The police did see what appeared to be evidence of crowbar break in on all 3 rooms and the hotel did take pictures and filed a report with the police as well. I will report back if we hear from the hotel.

Clean but slightly sketchy, couldn't pay with our chase card.
Pros: clean and tidy rooms with lovely grounds. Wifi is fast. Air conditioning in room. Close enough to town (about one mile to la fortunate center). Coffee maker in room.
Cons: wifi only works at the pool area (not in rooms), only a moderately comfortable bed, sliding door to our room (#8) appears to have been pried/broken into at some point. No tea option (only coffee). Reception not open when they say they will. Could not pay with our secure chase chip card because the numbers weren't raised. Ugh!
