Daughters wedding
Location, Food, Staff 100%. Booked resort for a wedding and everything was fabulous. Christophe and Sebastian were so accommodating and staff was attentive. Food was amazing, fresh and they were able to manage a couple of guests with allergies, no problem.

A Perfect Spot to Enjoy Drake Bay
Beautiful views, comfortable beds, gourmet food, and helpful staff - this just begins to describe Tranquilo Lodge. Tranquilo Lodge sits on a hillside that leads down to a road that runs along side Drake Bay. The view from the reception area/dining area of the beautiful blue bay is spectacular with Isla Cano in the distance and the infinity pool immediately off the dining area. The salt water pool sits on the next level down. Gustav, one of the owners, greeted us upon arrival and oriented us to this wonderful property. We were encouraged to have lunch while our bags were being taken to our lodging. As I waited for a menu, I quickly found out that meals are "chef's choice". I have to say, while initially not excited about not having a choice, the meals were out of this world delicious... everything from Osso Bucco to some of the best "tacos" I have ever had, fresh salads, the sweetest fruits, Seafood Linguine, and homemade sherbets. We participated in a couple of tours with early starts and staff made sure to pack us a filling and varied breakfast the night before that we kept in our fridge in our room.
In getting acquainted with the property we traversed the many steps down to street level only to be met by Oro - the property dog - who escorted us to the beautiful beach. On our way back, Oro was reluctant to return so quickly, and we weren't sure we were ready to climb the many steps back to the deck only to be met by staff in a golf cart that took us back up the road to the deck. Our personal lodging was a private building that abutted the jungle, very private, and to our liking. We had a lovely deck with a view similar to the one off the restaurant, a large open space for a bedroom with fridge, coffee and tea supplies and snacks, a large area for our clothing, and a commode separate from the wonderful walkin shower area. Everything was clean and fresh and quiet and private.
Our first expedition was a boat ride to Isla Cano for snorkeling and we boarded the boat with a wet landing at a nearby beach and then proceeded to pick up other tour participants. On our way we saw a humpback female with her baby, false orcas, dolphins and a couple of turtles. Snorkeling was fun and we stopped for a snack break on the island between our two sessions. The water wasn't as clear as we have experienced in some other locations but it was easy snorkeling with various fish, turtles, maybe a couple of nurse sharks lying on the bottom under an overhang.
The second day we journeyed to the Corcovado which entailed another boat ride with wet landing, signing in complete with passports, baggage check (nothing disposable is allowed) and off we walked for 8 1/2 miles, stopping for lunch at Sirena Station. An amazing experience seeing a wonderful snake, tapir, anteater, birds, monkeys, big lizard, caiman, crocodile, coati, huge variety of birds and more. Getting back onto the boat was an experience as the tide had gone out and it required walking over a rocky, uneven surface with water mid thigh high, but we made it. Our last day there we did a birding outing and tour of the town of Drake Beach.
Gustav, Christina and Alex were so good to us as were the other helper people who shuttled us up and down the hill. At eighty years old we decided that we had to be twice the age of other travelers to this part of Costa Rica, but nobody had more fun that we did.

Great property in a lovely area. The perfect place to enjoy the Drake area. Very good tours. Brilliant staff. Clientele all very chilled out and low key.

Stunning Views & Exceptional Service, But Watch the Extras
We were blown away by the breathtaking views and the exceptional service. The staff went above and beyond, and the décor was equally impressive.
On the downside, we were surprised and disappointed to learn at the end of our stay that the “all-inclusive” package did not cover basics like bottled water or coffee and tea after meals. While it was made clear from the start that alcoholic drinks and excursions were extra, we hadn’t expected to pay for such essentials.
Another letdown was that yoga, which had been a deciding factor for us, is no longer offered on-site.
Bottom line: Stunning setting and hospitality, but be prepared for hidden extras.

An unforgettable experience - laid back indulgent luxury
What an amazing place! The location is superb - views of rainforest and the sea from our panoramic villa and the pool area. We felt spoilt by Alex and particularly Christina, who we saw more of due to their working hours. The food was absolutely amazing, like a Michelin star restaurant. The rooms were very comfortable and very well equipped- including mouthwash in a welcome pack, which is a first for me. Free beer, soft drinks and snacks in the room too. Plus a free laundry bag of washing. These were added bonuses - it is the friendly staff and beautiful location and facilities that make this a wonderful hotel. Tranquille it certainly was. And a special mention for owner Christophe who was very friendly and quite a character! You have made this hotel very special, Christophe. Shame we didn’t get to meet Sébastien- maybe another time!
