En Barranquilla me quedo! Great city and hotel!
We stayed two nights in Barranquilla at the Hotel Atlantic Blue at 123000COP/£40 per night towards the end of our 2 weeks in Colombia and I wish it could have been longer! Barranquilla was a refreshing change to some of the other coastal towns - cheap, not touristy, delicious inexpensive food, friendly people and the amazing La Troja for the best salsa! The hotel is located in the northern part of the city which is supposed to a nicer area but we didn't feel unsafe at any time in Barranquilla. It's very close to La Troja but there are discotecas everywhere and we were lucky to hear/see local Vallenato band playing next door to our hotel on the first night. The staff at the hotel are extremely kind and helpful. The hotel room was modern, spacious and very clean. Barranquilla was a highlight of our trip to the Colombian coast and this hotel, location, service etc was perfect.

Huge disappointment
We just spent 3 nights there. This property is well below description and the photos are ''well done'' to attract guests. Do not expect to have a breakfast as presented, in truth you will be very surprised at the one offered, in fact it will be a disappointment. Especially if like us, you see a cockroach running on the glass tray. The latter having invited themselves the first 2 evenings in the room.
Certainly there are rooms that are pretty much similar to the pictures but as far as we are concerned, we were accommodated in the worst.

Clean room
We booked through agoda.com. At the time of booking no double rooms were listed as available so we booked a triple room. After arriving it was clear that there were many double rooms available. In contrast to our experience at San Martin in Cartagena, Atlantic Blue offered no reduction eventhough we were put in a double room. I did not make a scene but neither did I appreciate their attitude. This hotel is OK in many respects but the location is awful and the breakfast has scant choices. In addition, there is no elevator and all rooms require climbing up stairs. We stayed the three nights we booked then moved to the El Prado for our last two nights.

carnival fiasco made right
as we were arriving during the town's crazy busy festival, our web provider had somehow cancelled our reservation although we had a written confirmation. The more than hospitable staff allowed us to stay until it was all straightened out. Convenient location.....clean rooms....one of the few places in Colombia we had hot water. Great value for the money and the manager was extremely helpful.

Nice Hotel !!
I stayed two night in this hotel, it was quiet, clean, and the staff was very helpful. The Wifi worked good in my room. The airconditioning was cold and comfortable. The breakfast was included, fruit, scrambled eggs, toast, juice and coffee. The hotel stored my bags for free while I took daytrips elsewhere. I paid 104,000 COP per day, a good value for the quality received. Overall, a good experience and I would definitely stay there again.
