Restaurant on site for lunch and supper was okay, one night I found a live bug in the olive they acted quickly to resolve the issue.
Breakfast buffet is nice.
Overall we would stay again if needed

A disappointing experience
My husband and I travel to Kenya every year from the UK, usually we only stay in Diani but this year we decided to visit Watamu too - I wish we hadn’t bothered. A couple of weeks prior we had been staying at Ocean Village Club in Diani which is just incredible. We opted to stay at Kobe Suite because we are usually a fan of of boutique and intimate hotels - sadly this couldn’t be further from the truth.
Upon arrival, we were greeted in a very lukewarm manner, not the Kenyan hospitality you’ll be used to. Very little explanation was given regarding how to actually enjoy your time here and what experiences/excursions would be available. We were visiting Watamu to celebrate my husband’s 30th birthday, something I told staff ahead of time via email but they did nothing to acknowledge this or make it special. I also emailed ahead of time to book a private dinner for the two of us on the evening of his birthday as I had seen on their website this was something they could do. I was communiting with Beatrice about this who made it clear it was something they could accommodate. When I arrived I followed up with a young male member of reception staff, who I have to say, is probably the rudest and most unfriendly member of staff I have ever come across - it was like speaking to a brick wall with no desire to try and help us at all. Clearly there is no cross team communication in this hotel, I explained what I had agreed with Beatrice and after some back and forth he went into the back room, came back and said ‘she never got your email’ in an exceptionally accusatory manner, I pulled out my phone and showed him my email exchange, his response was ‘ok’ - no apology for the confusion and miscommunication - it felt like I was pulling teeth, they were so unwilling to help arrange something for his birthday, not once was I asked what time would we like dinner, do we have any requests etc they just wouldn’t communicate with me about it or try to formally arrange anything. I was so frustrated with this exchange and had no faith in them what so ever that they would arrange anything remotely nice for him, later that day I went back to reception and found another member of staff and told them to cancel the dinner - hilariously, no note of the birthday dinner was even in the reservation notebook, you couldn’t make it up. We took our money elsewhere and ended up having dinner and drinks at Medina Palms hotel just down the road, which was fabulous.
The room are spacious, but very dark, almost no light in the bathroom and no air conditioning in the living space makes it unusable - the toiletries provided are very budget, and basics like mosquito repellent wipes are not replenished when used despite there being no mosquito nets over the beds. Beds are also very uncomfortable.
The outside guest policy was the biggest turn off for our entire trip - staff members are reserving poolside beds from 9am in the morning (the time the pool opens btw) for outside guests who stroll in at midday - no priority is given to hotel guests at all, it gets very crowded and busy up by the main pool, despite not having children we opted to stay by the family pool to avoid the onslaught of heavily drinking day guests. All the tables at lunch are also reserved for outside beach goers, the nice tables are never available for hotel guests.
Via the hotel we also booked the marine park excursion, costing around £140 in total, we thoroughly enjoyed this trip and loved seeing the dolphins. This trip was booked via the hotel, however, we could not pay for the trip with the hotel, we had to pay the boat operator directly. We didn’t have enough cash on us (circa 23,000), nor do we really use MPESA we were wanting to pay via card as is standard at hotels. This wasn’t possible, tour operator only wanted cash or MPESA to which we had neither. We asked the hotel can we pay you and you MPESA him? No. Can we pay you and you give us the cash to pay him? No. They offered absolutely no solutions to help us with this, we ended up sitting in reception for over an hour whilst my husband made a Kenyan PayPal account and tried to get it all sorted, all whilst feeling under a lot of pressure because the operator was sat outside wanting to be paid. I just couldn’t believe the staff weren’t willing to help us out at all, especially as this happened during our last day when we were due to check out and travel to the airport. Their suggestion was to take a tuktuk to the centre of Watamu (more costs) and withdraw cash at the ATM (more costs) - when you arrange a trip via and hotel there is an expectation they will arrange the payment.
Overall, it’s just been a disappointing experience, this hotel is not cheap, and the cost in no ways lives up to the experience you’ll have. The majority of staff are so rude and unhelpful - though I will say the restaurant staff are very kind and did all they could for us, I took the names of George, Simon, Oscar and David who were really lovely and helpful.
The food is below average, we chose to not eat our dinners here and instead go to Litchaus, Hemingway’s and Medina Palms, all of which serve better quality food. After the check out debacle we were due to go and have lunch at the restaurant but we were so fed up we left and once again, had lunch at Medina - the staff were laughing about how much they had seen us during this trip, sadly it was fully booked but we would have moved over if it were possible.
The hotel has potential, the grounds are beautiful and the pools are nice but it is genuinely the worst hospitality I’ve ever experienced from the reception staff and the fact they did nothing to acknowledge or try and celebrate my husbands birthday was such a let down.

We are disappointed to hear that your experience did not meet expectations, particularly during such an important occasion. Your comments regarding communication, service at reception, and the handling of your pre-arranged requests have been noted and are being reviewed internally to ensure better coordination and responsiveness.
We also appreciate your feedback on the excursion arrangements, room experience, and guest policies. These insights are valuable as we continue refining our overall guest experience.
It is, however, encouraging to hear that members of our restaurant team—George, Simon, Oscar, and David—made a positive impression, and your recognition will be shared with them.
We value all guest feedback and will use it constructively as we continue to improve.
Best regards
