Capital Hotel
St. John's International Airport is less than 15 minutes’ drive from this hotel. It offers on-site dining, a fitness centre, and spacious rooms and suites with a flat-screen cable TV.

Good Choice. Great Stay!
We selected this hotel based largely on the TripAdvisor reviews, and I have to say they were pretty much spot on.
The location is excellent—just a short drive from downtown St. John's, making it easy to visit many of the area's attractions on your own schedule. I will note that parking downtown can be a bit of a treasure hunt depending on the time of day, but that's hardly the hotel's fault. There is also a large selection of good restaurants nearby, all within an easy drive.
One of the hotel's biggest conveniences is Jack's Restaurant, located right inside the building. We had breakfast there every morning during our stay and found both the food and prices to be very reasonable. Hotel guests also receive a discount, which is always appreciated. There is also an on-site lounge, Safe Harbour, which looked inviting, but after spending our days exploring Newfoundland, we never quite found the time—or energy—to investigate further.
The hotel itself is very clean, and the staff were friendly, professional, and helpful throughout our stay. And, perhaps most importantly for us septuagenarians, it has elevators. At our age, "mountain climbing" should be reserved for sightseeing, not getting to the room.
THE ROOM: The Good
• Spacious and comfortable.
• Iron and ironing board.
• Pad and pen—an increasingly rare luxury these days.
• Hair dryer.
• Coffee maker.
• Convenient wall thermostat for the window A/C unit (although the unit itself is a bit noisy).
• Fire sprinklers and alarm system for added safety.
THE ROOM: The Not-So-Good
• The refrigerator is installed inside a desk cabinet, but it appears to be too large for the space. The refrigerator door rubs against the cabinet door when opened, and the cabinet door is showing significant wear and looks close to giving up entirely. Because the refrigerator barely fits, it also has to be positioned just right to open properly. It seemed out of place in an otherwise well-maintained hotel.
• The room features a nice 42-inch television. Unfortunately, many of the channels are filler programming, with few premium viewing options. If you're a fan of vintage game shows from the 1960s, you'll be in luck. The channel guide, however, was so inaccurate that it might be more useful as a souvenir than a reference.
• The sink drained slowly and occasionally backed up. This should be a simple maintenance fix.
Overall
This is a very nice hotel that we thoroughly enjoyed. The location, cleanliness, friendly staff, and on-site dining made for a pleasant stay. The few issues we encountered were minor annoyances rather than major problems, and hopefully they'll be addressed. We would happily stay here again and would recommend it to others visiting St. John's.

The hotel was fine. We arrived after midnight and left early in the morning, so our experience at the hotel was limited, but we were comfortable. The person at the desk was helpful when we arrived late. We didn't make use of the hotel restaurant, but there was an all-night Denny's a few doors down which we used after we arrived. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable.

We found the cleaning to be ok, but could have been better.
The lighting in the bedside lamps was dead on one side and the light in the bathroom room had to warm up before giving full illumination.
The restaurant was ok, staff great but food wasn’t the best.

I hadn’t stayed at The Capital for several years. Absolutely nothing wrong with it except it is showing its age.
