Comfortable, Friendly, and Relaxing
After a long road trip through Newfoundland and Nova Scotia, we needed a comfortable place to spend the night before crossing back over the border. The Granite Town Hotel caught our attention while browsing reviews and photos, and we're glad it did.
The hotel is clean, attractive, and reasonably priced, with a tastefully decorated lobby and an adjoining sitting/dining area that immediately makes you feel welcome. The two-story building is well maintained, and the wide staircase made hauling luggage upstairs easy. We had no trouble at all—and we're both septuagenarians. The front desk clerk was professional, friendly, and checked us in quickly and efficiently.
A complimentary continental breakfast is provided each morning, and everything was fresh, clean, and well stocked. Options included bagels, hard-boiled eggs, cereal, muffins, pastries, juice, milk, and several other items. It was a pleasant way to start the day.
The hotel has the cozy feel of a good bed-and-breakfast. In fact, we met at least six fellow guests while coming and going during our stay. Yes, the stereotype is true—people really are friendly in Canada.
The Room – The Good

• Reliable Wi-Fi
• Clean and well maintained
• PTAC window unit that makes a little noise, but nothing that would keep you awake
The Room – The Not-So-Good
• The room has a 30-inch television, but operating it turned out to be more challenging than expected. There was a cable box, two remotes, and no instructions. After a full day of driving, we spent a few minutes pressing buttons and hoping for the best, but never succeeded in getting it to work.
A suggestion to management: a simple instruction sheet and an up-to-date channel guide would save future guests from accidentally turning television viewing into an evening puzzle-solving competition.
We would happily recommend the Granite Town Hotel and would stay here again without hesitation—if only it were a little closer to home.

Pros: free parking, comfortable bed, appeared clean, frig and microwave in working condition
Cons: second floor room with no elevator so lug your suitcases up, lamp without bulb, another damaged lamp leaning to one side, broken chair, corrosion on all metal items from lamps to door hinges, AC unit blowing directly on bed, no table or lamp on one side of bed, okay breakfast except weak coffee, dripping tub faucet, no charger plugs (fortunately we had cubes), very dated decor and some furnishings very marred with cup rings etc. Depressing.

A bit depressing
We had a second floor room (208). No elevator. It appeared clean. Very dated decor. Every metal surface was corroded or rusted, from lamps to door hinges. Tub faucet dripped. AC blows directly on the bed. One side of bed has no lamp/night stand. The frig and microwave were in working order. Tabletops were scratched, marred and stained. A chair was broken. No charging spots, fortunately we brought cubes for charger cords. Free parking. Some good breakfast items, nice muffins but very weak coffee. The bed was comfortable. Definitely needs updating and refreshing.

I'd give this a miss
The room itself was very grimy - door surfaces, desk and bedside table tops. The walls were dirty. I went to the front desk and they gave me cleaning fluid and cloths. Definitely needs painting. Furniture was dated and badly worn.
Bathroom was clean as were the sheets. Bed was comfortable
Pricey for the shape the room was in.
Staff were very pleasant and helpful.

The bedroom was old and dusty; the mirrors were covered in dust; the table was not clean; the dust-covered bedsheets were torn; and the bathroom wasn't clean. It doesn't deserve three stars; it's just a way to get into a motel. The included breakfast was so simple—coffee, tea, a muffin, and juice..the price was high
