Wonderful stay

We were a last-minute reservation (made it around 3pm while in Banff and decided to spend the night). Hotel staff were friendly and accommodating. There is a secure parking garage under the hotel, which was a nice surprise. The hotel is close enough to the center of town to walk (though they gave us complimentary bus passes on check-in, valid for our whole stay), but far enough from the center to afford a very quiet atmosphere. The room was spacious and we sat outside on the balcony/porch to enjoy a quiet glass of wine. We heard birds and some baby elk honking to their mothers in the nearby woods. I'm so glad they had space for us! (The "no vacancy" sign lit up as we finished checking in!)

For the price of this hotel, it is sorely lacking in ALL areas. EVERY part of the hotel needs renovating/refurbishing: the lobby is dark with the cavernous closed restaurant looming and barricaded, the furniture shabby, and coffee "bar" lacking. Rooms that was also dark, outdated bathroom with little lighting, (and not as pictured on the website) and had to ask for an operable coffee pot each day. The wifi signal is weak, dropping out frequently, making any work impossible. As there is no restaurant, one must walk to breakfast. After waiting 4 hrs, had to ask at 3:30 if a room might possibly be ready; ie: no communication between front desk and housekeeping, which is standard. Very disappointing, especially considering the price.

Problematic room, but an exceptionally helpful hotel manager

The check-in at the Rundlestone Lodge was very friendly and went smoothly. Unfortunately, our vehicle was too tall for the underground garage, so we had to park in a public area behind the hotel.
The real challenge, however, was our room. The window was right next to the indoor pool, could not be opened, and offered hardly any privacy due to the immediate proximity to the pool. Under these conditions, a stay was out of the question for us.
Since the hotel management could not offer us another room, the only option left was to change hotels. We would like to especially highlight the hotel manager. He was extremely friendly and helpful and even organized our overnight stay at another hotel. Even though the room was not suitable for us, the handling of the situation was exemplary.

Hasn’t been updated. Looks the same as it did 25 years ago. Power was scheduled to be out all day, so we had to leave and no notice until we arrived. Air conditioning did not work. Room was hot & muggy. Won’t be back.

This is probably the best question I have seen. It was comfortable, and the amenities were useful without being over the top. The staff bus friendly and quite helpful. Would love to stay here again.
