Perfect accommodation and dinner

We stayed at Sennenmatsu for one night on our bike ride from Onomichi to Imabari - the Shimanami trail. Our stay at Sennenmatsu was definitely the hi-light. We received a very warm welcome, the accommodation was lovely with creative touches, the onsen was truly amazing and we’re treated to very delicious meals for breakfast and dinner. The specialty is seafood but I am vegetarian and the chefs went above and beyond to provide a delicious meal. Thank you Sennenmatsu we really enjoyed our stay with you.

For the ultimate Japanese experience

I notice all the reviews for this Japanese style hotel are in Japanese, so foreign guests must be rare, but if you want to experience a ryokan (Japanese inn) stay, I would highly recommend this hotel. It is in a stunning location, almost on the beach, with views of the many islands dotted around the Inland Sea. The rooms are Japanese style with tatami mat floors, minimalist furniture and shoes not allowed! You sleep on a futon on the floor, meals are in your room or in a dining room and there is a spa style bath. It's not strictly an onsen (spring water bath) as it uses seawater, but it's at a comfortable temperature and feels like the communal bath so loved by the Japanese. (My husband was disappointed that it was divided into men and women's baths, which is usually the case in Japan). The food is delicious, mostly fresh fish and beautifully presented, though not for the conservative Western palate! This could be a problem for the unadventurous but for those wishing to enjoy Japanese culture, Sennenmatsu is perfect. The staff were very helpful, friendly and kind, meeting us off the bus and taking us to places we wanted to visit, or at least to the nearest point of public transport - very necessary as this is not the most accessible place. It is on the last island which the bridge crosses, and being an island, roads are narrow. It's a popular place with cyclists crossing the bridge and if I'd been younger, I'd have hired a bike! The only negative thing for me was the thin mattress and the staff did their best to make me more comfortable by putting a bed in our tatami room - but fine if you don't mind a hard bed. Everything else was wonderful and I felt that we were leaving friends behind when we said goodbye

Nearly perfect resort!

I don't comment this hotel as perfect resort because I visit here in winter. In summer, I can enjoy the beautiful beach. Then it will be perfect. Now I can only enjoy the view of the beautiful beach ;-)
They serve best fish dishes, big and tidy room in a very reasonable price. Very helpful service. I really love it!

まさに伊予の竜宮城。温泉と海の幸を満喫できます。

伊予の竜宮城のような感じです。ロケーションと海の幸が最高。新鮮な瀬戸内の魚料理、鮑の肝ステーキ、さらに伊勢海老の味噌汁、鯛めしが絶品。海水露天風呂からの瀬戸内のプライベートビーチの景色も素晴らしいです。もう20年近く前から、友人との旅行で利用させていただいています。
