Great Family Trip!
Generations of my family aging from 21 to 78 spent the weekend at Spicy Hill villa and had a wonderful time! Where to start?
Booking: easy enough and I was asked to provide the names of guest in advance, which gave me a sense of the attention to security. I’m sure I could have changed the guest list as needed, and in fact one person was added just the day before we arrived.
The Villa: even better than the pictures. As soon as I walked into the tropical-themed bedrooms I could tell that someone with a designer’s eye had matched paint, fabrics and finishes so the rooms did not feel loud or tacky. Yes it’s the tropics but I like restful themes too, and the decor here was expertly done. Not sure all the bathrooms had exhaust fans to dry up shower moisture, but the AC units seemed to dry everything very quickly, no negative impacts like you might otherwise see from moisture. The place was immaculately clean too, which is super important for a STR. There was a spacious, fully equipped kitchen with a Wolf or Viking stove - not sure which because I only had to go there to fill my glass, thanks to….
The Staff: Mr. Blackwood, the property manager also served as our expert chef and made delicious meals for us, which were served by Mr. Keith, the butler. The housekeeper, Ms. Cynthia, kept the place sparking clean, and she very kindly did some laundry and ironed my husband and my clothes for dinner, which was served poolside, on the patio. They were an amazing team that worked well together!
The Grounds: a lush elevated and gated property that was planted with flowers and fruit trees and beautifully maintained. There’s a separate game room where the millennials and Gen Z’ers gathered to play games and shoot pool, followed by a post midnight dip in the lighted and jetted pool. One of my kids is a dialysis patient, and he really had a blast, he’s already figured out how much it would cost for us to fly into the property from Montego Bay for another visit .
BTW: You do have to bring your own food if you want the chef to cook for you, but there are dining options outside. The villa lent us beach towels. Bring water shoes if you’re going to climb waterfalls or swim in the river.
Activities: it may not be clear from the property description that it’s literally right across the street from Frenchman’s Cove beach (walkable). We definitely needed more time to visit some of the nearby beaches and to visit the Port Antonio boardwalk area. However, Mr. Blackwood introduced us to some local raft captains who took us on a lovely, leisurely and peaceful trip down the Rio Grande River to the bay. We stopped along the way for a dip in the river and to eat food cooked by local women on the river bank. This trip is a must do! If we had more days, one of them would have been spent by the pool too, but we needed more time you can eat off-property too as restaurants are around. In fact, there was one right next door to Spicy Hill that stayed open late to feed us all on the first night of our stay.
Overall, it was the best money we spent during our vacation and I’d wholeheartedly to it again. There’s so much to see, do and love in Portland!

Absolutely amazing, will be back!
The whole team on-site was nothing short of exceptional. Everyone was kind, thoughtful and incredibly helpful. We had an inter-generational family reunion for a weekend, complete with 3 birthdays and our time at Spicy Villa was spectacular. The roads in Portland are absolute murder, so get yourself a 4WD if you can. We made the drive in the rain, but it was sunny and gorgeous our whole visit — and even if it hadn't been, the facilities are so complete we would've had a great time anyways. Would absolutely recommend, and we plan to be back!

They treat us like family
My friends and I stayed at this location for five days. Everything about this was incredible. The staff provided us with the highest quality care and prepared the most delectable meals (ackee and salt fish, stew peas, fish soup, oxtail, rice and peas, fry plantains, Johnny cakes, etc.). In addition to this, they satisfied all of our requirements. They also provided suggestions for the highest quality of daily activities, nightclubs, and city excursions. The residents of this area are known for their friendliness and hospitality, especially toward visitors.
On the grounds of the beautiful property that is meticulously maintained, there are various secluded spots where one can have some quiet. We were having such a good time that it wasn't until we were checking out of the villa that we realized we hadn't taken advantage of its game area to its full potential. If you're looking for a relaxing vacation spot in Jamaica, I can't say enough good things about this villa. Denny and the rest of the team deserve our gratitude for making our vacation so wonderful.
