Great place to stay close to Kilkenny
Wonderful place in a quiet town just outside of Kilkenny. Hospitality was above and beyond. We had a great stay and would definitely come back.

Poor food and cleanliness
Four adults and one child had food from the bar, which was very disappointing. The menu was limited, and when one of our party asked for a medium-rare steak, he was brought a steak sandwich instead. The steak in the sandwich was full of gristle and as tough as old boots. The smoked burger was tasteless, and the coleslaw in the side salad was anything but fresh.
Once we started eating, an older gentleman who had served us kept hovering in and out and peeping around the corner, as if trying to hurry us along. It felt very uncomfortable and made the experience even less enjoyable.
The ornaments on the ledge above our table were also covered in dust.
All in all, it was a very poor experience, and unfortunately, not one I would recommend.
Once we started eating, an older gentleman who had served us kept hovering in and out and peeping around the corner, as if trying to hurry us along. It felt very uncomfortable and made the experience even less enjoyable.

Bad experience
Having completed a course at Castlecomer craft village four of us headed into Avalon for lunch the courtyard was busy and we got a table there. We ordered two toasted sandwiches and one pasta, 1 water, 1 mineral, 1 pint and 1 shandy. While we were sitting at the table, the umbrella lifted up fell forward and shattered the entire table into pieces we obviously got a fright and we had little particles of glass on us and one of the party had a cut wrist we were a bit shook but didn’t make a fuss we got moved to another table there staff were lovely asking us were we ok other customers came over asking were we ok also . Our food and drinks were replaced but when we asked to pay the bill out of politeness we were told to pay inside . We were told our drinks were free but we had to pay the remainder of the bill. We were surprised it’s not like we had a three course meal each . Considering what had happened we did expect to be told it was on the house .

I spoke with you personally following the incident involving the umbrella. Unfortunately, a sudden gust of wind caused it to become dislodged, resulting in the glass cover breaking. While the weather was beyond our control, I understand that this was an upsetting experience.
At the time, we did our best to put things right by moving you to another table, replacing your food, and offering your drinks complimentary as a gesture of goodwill. I had hoped these steps would help make up for the disruption, but I am sorry to hear that you feel they did not adequately address your experience.
We genuinely regret that your visit was affected by this unforeseen incident and appreciate you taking the time to let us know how you feel. Your feedback is valued and will help us continue to review how we respond in situations like this.

Nice clean room. However, I was given a room that was directly opposite a bar (I believe connected to the hotel) which was hosting a party on Saturday night, playing very loud music, couldn't sleep until it stopped at around midnight.

We wish we had booked a longer stay. Hotel is one of the best we have stayed in on our travels worldwide. From check in, by a wonderful young man, so helpful and a room upgrade to the wonderful meal in the bar which was beautiful and excellent value. The bar had a huge range of beers which is always a plus. Room was amazing, and wow, what a bathroom. Breakfast was cooked fresh and a great choice on menu, ahain excellent value. The things that really stood out to us was the fine details of the decor, from beautiful flower outside, the wonderful lift doors, fabulous light in reception and the really thought out artwork on the walls. Best thing about the whole place was the excellent staff. We will recommend to any friends who are travelling to Ireland.
