Great place for a retreat or for groups
The cool, misty mountainous feel was welcome, even if we got soaked riding up through the extensive tea-estates, and although the room we booked was on the small side it was well furnished and comfortable, and we slept well.
The attraction of the place is undoubtedly the hot springs which are cleverly piped into the grounds beneath the main hotel building, offering many places to test the healing qualities or just enjoy the warm waters. We just missed the weekend crowd but it was still quite busy.
As well as the hotel, there are villas in a quiet side section and dormitories for lower price and group accommodation. Outward bound attractions include tree walks, fox wires, paint ball, 4x4 and go-karting, plus other organised activities like archery, craft, music, etc. As we walked around the extensive grounds in the late afternoon there were clearly lots of fun things to do for all the family, particularly if they love the warm water pools and waterfalls, and the facilities appeared in reasonable state, if a little shabby.
We ate in the restaurant that evening and the food was OK - nothing special. On the other hand the breakfast was a good feast (try the "English Porridge" with honey - I had two helpings it was so good) and a great way to start another day of biking!!! The hotel restaurant is about 100m downhill with it's own hot springs, which I tried and thoroughly enjoyed.
No beer/wine for sale in the hotel so bring your own or shop up the road as we did for a few cans of Anker!
We would come back, particularly to climb Gunung Tangkubanperahu properly, run, cycle and walk. Good place for office away days and larger groups
