The Merak
Located in Leh, The Merak is near a boardwalk/promenade. The area's natural beauty can be seen at Pangong Tso and Pangong Tso. This hotel features a restaurant, laundry facilities, and a garden. Best property along Pangong Tso
In my opinion it does not matter since this property is worth the extra travel along the lake.
What a view from the dining hall.
Rooms are independent of each other. Designed to keep you warm without artificial heating. Some special insulation used.
Each room is divided into three parts. So bedroom does not see the clutter you carry.
Park in front of your cabin. Yes it is a cabin divided into three parts.
Food the staff will check with you as to what you wish if the occupancy is low.

Pleasant stay at the Merak, Pangong
Telecom network is problematic, and nothing except BSNL 2G works there. No intercom either. Difficult to communicate. Akshay readily offered his phone for any calls, but it gets difficult at times.
See if you can give one BSNL 2G phone to every cottage guests for the duration of their stay for calls outside and also for room service, etc.

The Merak Hotel: A Tranquil Escape in the Pangong Lake region
The rooms were clean, comfortable, and well-appointed, with large windows that offered incredible views of the lake. Waking up to the sight of Pangong Lake reflecting the early morning light was one of the highlights of our trip. The simplicity and warmth of the accommodations perfectly complemented the rugged beauty of the region.
The hotel’s staff were incredibly kind and attentive, making sure we were comfortable despite the remote location. They provided everything we needed, including extra blankets for the cold nights and warm, hearty meals. The food was freshly prepared, and we especially enjoyed the local Ladakhi dishes, which added an authentic touch to our stay.
What sets The Merak Hotel apart is its unbeatable location—away from the more crowded tourist spots, it offers a quiet, secluded experience. But a caution would like to add that everyone should carry with oxygen while staying here as the air is thin and oxygen level drops at the night hours so safety precautions are must as well.
If you’re looking for a calm, relaxing stay with breathtaking views and genuine hospitality, The Merak Hotel in the Merak Pangong region is the perfect choice. It’s a little slice of heaven by one of the most beautiful lakes in the world. Highly recommended for nature lovers and those seeking a peaceful retreat!
Our travel was assisted by our driver cum guide who helped us as one of the friend due to thin air dropped his oxygen level. His concern and care to ensure we had smooth trip added an human touch to our experience. Just an amazing stay!
Please note that this is a place where the temperature drops down very low in the night. It was around -1 to -2 degrees when we stayed and the insulated rooms do keep us warm. Warm water is available, note that the electricity is available from 7 - 12 both AM / PM.
Note there are no signals only BSNL have some connectivity!! They do arrange some phones for any emergency and we can call all over India. Signals are dependent on weather as well.
Food served at the cafe is just clean and amazing. Service of the staff was amazing and they do keep an eye out for the customers as it is at almost 14,000 ft altitude and might trouble some of the customers with breathing problems and they would extend their support with Nurse or Guidance to the nearest hospital.
If you are lucky one can witness the amazing milky way and bright stars so keep your eyes open in the night. Carry jackets & other stuff to keep youself warm !!
Overall just an amazing experience of stay at this place and just missing the place already.
