Lovely experience at Saraca
We had such a lovely experience at Saraca. The room and hotel in general is very well maintained and very clean. The staff were all very friendly and helpful in advising us on our travels. The location is close enough to main attractions and town without the noisiness of being on a busy road. Food at Azrack and Asian Table within the hotel was absolutely delicious. Would definitely come back and recommend to family and friends.

A hidden gem in Lucknow, and a truly class act
Saraca is a class act. Stylish, elegant, charmingly old-world but equipped with every convenience of a lovely modern hotel. The property was built 90 years ago, refurbished and opened as a boutique hotel a decade ago, and was operated for the first few years by the Bangkok-based luxury hotels and restaurants company Lebua. That is the name many people still know the hotel by, and ‘Saraca’ does not immediately ring a bell. This gorgeous hidden gem probably needs to have its sparkle marketed better, because it has the potential to wipe the floor with every competitor in Lucknow.
The low-rise property, painted a dazzling white, sprawls amid several small lawns and beautifully kept green patches in a compound that is located in a quiet, leafy part of the city at the edge of the Cantonment. It’s very centrally located, not really far from any major site or monument.
The property oozes charm – the black and white floors and staircases are very elegant, and the yellow floor tiles along some corridors offer a dramatic contrast with the white of the walls. In one small courtyard is an old well that has been aesthetically conserved, and the zigzagging stairs to the two upper floors are a very interesting architectural feature.
We went at a hot and humid time of the year when many of the rooms at Saraca were unoccupied, and the quiet corridors, sparkling clean and lit at night by very graceful and attractive lights, looked very inviting indeed.
The rooms (we were in 119 and 120) are large, with huge glass windows, and a large bathroom. The ACs, though old, were large, sturdy Mitsubishi machines that cooled effectively, the bed was big and comfortable, and the linen was spotless.
The hotel has several restaurants, of which we could try only Azrak. Like the rest of the property, it’s a classy space, with beautiful white table linen, blue flooring, and elegant hanging chandeliers with thoughtfully positioned spotlights that light up just the tables while leaving the spaces all around in shadows that are rather romantic. (I was delighted also because gloomily lit restaurants where I struggle to read the menu or clearly see what I am about to put in my mouth, annoy me!) Everything that we tasted was great, and the fact that several non-residents were eating there suggested this is a restaurant that holds its own in a city where it is generally difficult to eat badly. I wish we’d stayed longer, and had at least one more meal at Azrak so I could try out a few more dishes.
For the staff of Saraca I have only praise and gratitude. Each person that we encountered was uniformly pleasant, helpful, and efficient – from those at the gate to the doormen, from the room-service staff to the managers at the reception, from the servers in the restaurant to the housekeeping personnel. Thank you, all. You made our stay very comfortable indeed.
I think it helps travellers to know what this experience costs. The prices are on the hotel's website and with all the big travel agents such as Agoda. I thought we got a fantastic deal. What we paid for a 5-star experience in 2 rooms, 2 nights, was a steal.
In the end, do I have a complaint with Saraca? Not really. But because we had such a great time at the hotel, let me be tough and raise the bar a bit. So, it would be nice to have a full-length mirror in the room, and a somewhat better-lit bathroom. You could also consider whether some of the mattresses are nearing the time when they would have to be replaced. The ACs are great, but they look old, and can put off some customers. And I’d really like to see a password-protected WiFi network when I visit the next time – the open network is a little disturbing, and it did not help that several websites kept flagging the security risk to me.
But these are quibbles that you can fix easily. You’re doing great overall. Keep it up, and I hope to be back. Thanks much.

Luxury boutique resort
Wonderful hospitality. The hotel is a lovely Nawabi boutique haveli. The rooms are done with a royal taste. The sit outs in the property are very cosy. The best part is the wonderful staff who take care of your every need with a traditional Nawabi grandeur.
