The highlight of our Coonoor trip!

Imagine... the coolest cousin in the family has relocated to Coonoor.  All the not-as-cool-cousins decide it's time for a visit and fly/train/bus in arriving at all odd hours of the day and night. And what a cool place it is... the talk and laughter spills out over to the flower filled garden. And as at all gatherings, crisis hits - the aunty in charge of cooking has to be rushed to hospital, and with her goes the hopes of hot chapati for dinner. But no stress, someone sorts a delivery, others wander into the kitchen to keep the supply of coffee going... and great times continue.
No, we were not cousins gathering at The Birdhouse. We were not even from the same country. We were just travelers. But Aunty did have a medical emergency and we did invade the kitchen :) There is something about The Birdhouse that makes it home the minute you walk down the steep driveway directly into the eclectic and artistic chaos. Would we recommend it? Of course! Very definitely. If you are the type of traveler that loves to swap travel tales, make friends with complete strangers, sinks into a bean bag to watch the stars twinkling in the sky, try out a strange musical instrument... All the while wrapped in a peaceful calm.  Then this is the place to head for.

This hostel made me want to go to Coonoor and I am so impressed

I had no plans to go to Coonoor, but then I accidentally came across this property - loved the photos and reviews so much - and booked my stay here for 3 nights. Let's just say the impulsive decision was one of my best.
I had the absolute best time here at Birdhouse. Prajwal, the owner, is a brilliant guy. Christy, the volunteer that month, was a sweetheart. Aunty, who cooked us so many meals, was the best thing to happen to Birdhouse.
I made some lovely friends here, we walked around and explored nearby areas and cafes. We sat in the huge lawn and had our breakfasts, and late night gossips. Oh, what a time. Highly recommend this hostel.
