Lovely, green, and genuinely relaxing
We spent a few days at The Gateway Hotel Chikmagalur and came back feeling properly rested. The property sits amid so much greenery that just sitting outside with a coffee felt like the main activity — mornings especially were quiet and beautiful.
The room was spacious and comfortable, and we slept really well. Food was one of the highlights for us. Nothing fancy or overdone, just fresh, homely meals with enough variety that we didn't feel like eating out even once.
What really stood out was the staff. Everyone was polite and attentive. Special thanks to Mr. Sudheesh and Mr. Ashish Pathak, who went out of their way to make sure we were looked after — small thoughtful touches that made the stay feel personal.
Would happily recommend it to families or couples looking for a quiet break in the hills. We'd go back.

Wonderful experience and a day well spent at the Gateway.
We had a nice gathering of Family and Friends for a Ceremonial function followed by Lunch at the Gateway and let me tell you, the hospitality, the arrangements and attention to each detail was looked into in a very beautiful and professional way.
I would like to mention here Mr Nazim, a wonderful, dedicated and a humble person who's the Hotel Manager over there at that time and his entire team made it possible..
We had a wonderful time and looking forward to such events again..

Ihcl Property without Taj touch
The property is really beautiful and located on a hill and gives amazing view but mostly disappointed us. When we reached the property there were only 1 person on reception who served us welcome drinks helped in check out and was naturally stretched thin but check in was smooth. Our Room was extremely spacious even with extra bed there was huge space for use . After check in we head into restaurant for lunch and they almost refused to serve us even when we reached before 3.30 closing time . Hardly anyone was at the restaurant when we entered and after initially refusing us lunch ,they served it . Less said about food the better because for 3 days we stayed of my family suffered digestive issues and until we left we couldn't pin point that. Service is worse there is no coordination between wait staff and chefs and customer ends up suffering. The breakfast spread was almost same every day and was highly pathetic . Live counters took around 25 minutes to serve dosa and puri.Being IHCL shareholder I had coupons which i presented on day 1 wait staff said to talk to reception and front desk said that it will used while checking out ,but during check out they said it was to be done on every bill like i had said in first place and tried to blame me for not telling them about coupons, I reminded them then only they obliged. Honestly, I was highly disappointed idk its workforce shortage management issues but only department which was functioning well was Housekeeping and Laundry they did well . They single hadly has tarnished Taj and Gateway brand name in my mind and it was horrible experience.

I have always admired Taj for its hospitality, service standards, and well-maintained properties, which is why I chose Gateway Chikmagalur with high expectations. Unfortunately, my experience was disappointing right from the booking stage. Communication was poor — calls often went unanswered and getting support before arrival was difficult.
The property itself is decent and the location is good, but beyond that, the experience felt largely average. Unstable Wi-Fi, electricity issues, and a fairly ordinary food spread took away from what should have been a relaxing stay.
To be fair, the resort is not bad in itself. However, associating it with the Taj brand raises expectations of hospitality, service, and overall experience — expectations that, in this case, were not met. Had this been positioned simply as an independent resort, my expectations may have been different.
After spending three days here, I still found myself browsing resorts like Trivik and Serai and wondering if I should have booked elsewhere. That feeling alone sums up my overall experience.

Lovely stay at the Gateway
We checked in, the Gm of the hotel Mr Shadab Khan made sure we were given the best available room. He upgraded us to the cottage. What a lovely view with a charm of its own. The restaurant is amazing, very good food. We were taken the best care by the staff. Would recommend this hotel to everyone who is visiting Chikmagalur. Full marks to all departments. The stay was made special by Mr Shabad attending self to us and all other clients who we saw at the hotel
