Standard Double Room

As soon as I made my reservation on Booking, I was asked whether I wanted a free airport transfer. The driver was waiting with a name sign.
This bed & breakfast occupies the 5th & 6th floor of the UCAR building in Kaloum. Taxi drivers working in the area know it as the Skye Bank building. With taxi drivers from other parts of town, use restaurant Le Spécial or the Senegalese Mosque as a reference. The area surrounding the hotel is safe to walk around, even at night.
My corner room on the 5th floor was spacious & well appointed, and featured a nice sitting area. The kitchenette lacked all kitchen utensils. I had no intention of cooking anyway, but appreciated the mid-sized empty fridge. The A/C unit efficiently kept the room cool. The small shower cubicle offered nice & hot water. The room offered plenty of electrical sockets, all European style. The sole negative was that my double bed was actually 2 single beds pushed together.
Breakfast was included in the room rate. Breakfast consists of a croissant, half a baguette, butter & melted cheese, coffee with milk & sugar, as well as orange juice. There's no restaurant, but take-away can be ordered from nearby restaurant Le Spécial.
In the owner's absence, the hotel is run by a Tunisian couple. They were extremely helpful with arranging my overland transfer to Freetown. They gave me my personal WiFi router when the hotel WiFi wasn't functioning. In a city where accommodation is ridiculously overpriced, Résidence Sandervalia offers no frills rooms at reasonable rates, with great personal service. Recommended!

Unless you are prepared to spend €140 + per night, staying in a place like this is where you’ll be. On top two floors of a commercial building, location is in central Tombo. Sandervalia is run by Tunisian family, very hospitable and accomodating. Although spartan, the aircon works and rooms in back don’t get the street noise. Can’t expect much more in this price range. Clientele primarily from Arabic and francophone regions. Chinese have their own places (near Diamond circle part of town) and Hindus have their hotel Taj Mahal nearby. If your work is on the other side of Conakry, note the traffic can be horrific and lengthy. Residence Sandervalia is near the Ministries. Tourism virtually non-existent here. Restaurants nearby are Turkish, Lebanese, Moroccan and (astonishingly!) a Russian place. Hotel has free airport pick-up and dropoff, which you will need. They accept payment in USD or Euro and fair exchange. Three room sizes, the big ones are spacious, and well-lit.

Good clean accommodation in a good area

As has been previously mentioned the hotel is on the 5th / 6th floor.
First of all the staff, especially the manage are friendly and spoke English well, the hotel is clean and air conditioning is good.
A previous review mentioned they didn't like the area, but I felt perfectly safe in the area, walking around late at night, which is probably due to improvements in the area. There is a nice new restaurant on the corner of the street that the hotel is on, the owner is Lebanese, friendly and it is open 24 hrs, so food is always available + it sells ice cream and coffee.
I would definitely stay here again.

great value for money

The best thing about this place is the staff - everyone was nice and accommodating. The residence is on the 5th and 6th floor of a building where you have the Sky bank offices so it is good because a) it is easy to explain to people where you are and b)there's extra security. My room was not too big but was comfortable, light and clean. I actually lived here for a month and I would stay here again because of the location and the price, which I found to be very competitive.

Average for business trip

My stay here was just okay. Struggled with communication with staff - none understood english. I had to constantly remind staff to serve me breakfast even then I wasnt served on two occasions.
The wifi is at best described as okay. The rooms are neat and okay for a business stay. The bathrooms, however are tiny; very tiny! The elevator didnt work for the most part of my stay and had to use the stairs to the 6th floor where my room was! Power however is stable in the hotel.
The manager is friendly and willing to help when needed.
