Another wonderful holiday!
Our third visit and definitely not our last.
The welcome and service you receive from the moment you arrive to the day you leave is second to none. From Peta our cleaner, to Maria, Marcella, Billy, Chris and Theo, they all go above and beyond to make your holiday the best it can be. Any issues are resolved quickly and professionally, and nothing is too much trouble.
Travelling with a person with additional needs can be challenging, and this holiday threw us some curve balls. But we never felt uncomfortable and actually, everyone, staff and guests included, were really supportive. Thank you for that.
There are many returning guests and it was great to see some familiar faces, and as always, we left having made many more new friends. This place gets under your skin and it’s easy to see why people return year after year.
The hotel is rated 2* but it delivers well above that. Comfortable, basic rooms that are clean. Regular bedding and towel changes. Simple cooking facilities. A wonderful pool area that refreshingly, didn’t have sunbed wars this year- woohoo! Delicious food and drinks and 5* service. (Try the specials- they are yummy)
Yes, it’s a good walk into town in the heat. Yes, you have to buy your own toilet roll and yes, the air con is extra (well worth it!). But, these are minor things that are far outweighed by the positives.

Relaxing Zante break
Maria studios - clean rooms - house keeping excellent cleaned every day - fresh towels every 3 days - room basic not massive - had a balcony
Shower water temp hit & miss
Occasional odd smell from air con - did report - wasn’t sorted.
Kettle & fridge is all we needed-didn’t cook.
Only teacups no mugs - not a major issue.
Plates & cutlery & knives to cut fresh fruit available
Good selection of food all day -reasonable priced.- cooked breakfast , light bites & main meals.
We arrived 9.30pm ish on Friday - kitchen was still open so we had drinks & food which was great after day of travelling.
Staff very welcoming ,friendly & helpful
All areas around bar and pool kept clean & tidy
Nice size pool for amount of apartments.
Standard uk towel reserving Sunbeds most days ,but always found a Sunbed.
Nice family vibe of guests of all ages
We missed Greek night - Mon every other week
Selection of classic Brit karaoke, quiz & bingo on alternative nights starting at 10pm to catch those coming back from town after evening meal & drinks.
Very Uk clientele
Nice big library swap shop if you get through your holiday books.
Football & sport shirts by bar all left by guests apparently around 170 in total - so bring a spare if you want to leave one of your team.
I always look for tips from other guests so here are mine about local area.
We spent days at beach - which is super sandy and clear blue waters . A few beach sellers - happy happy bling bling , massage , bag sellers, look out for doughnut man sets up with his massive tray of €3 doughnuts the size of your hand.
Moby dick seafront bar - €20 3 Sunbeds , umbrella , free Wi-Fi , beach service food and drink , ice creams , toilet , nice lunch menu under cover , great staff .
Best local shop-“Super market Alykes” at cross roads turn right
Follow Road around the bend on right hand side
Good value , good choice friendly staff
Tip -shop for essentials on way back from eve food - open late & cooler to carry water than in morning or day time .
Dolphin cruises €25 - 4 hr ship wreck island & blue caves , 2 swim stops ,leaves Alykes pier at 9.30 & 1.30pm pre book and bring ticket .
Jo’s crepperie & ice creams worth a sweet tooth visit
Evening meal -Porto Paradiso - great sea front view by the jetty on the corner - good value food - very friendly staff.
If you love cats Alykes is for you ,they are everywhere.
Couple of emergency warnings on beach for local fires , had some sea planes reloading in front of our beach - added some drama for our day.
Overall the apartments are ok, staff amazing, very relaxed vibe. Good location for balance of pool or walk to beach is available.
Good choice of places to eat in the evening.
A lovely venue for a peaceful family getaway with a lovely mountain backdrop at back of apartments.

Avoid this place!!!
Awful place would not recommend at all. The hotel is clean and that is with great thanks to the hard working cleaning team. The food is good too. The owner basically has euro signs in her eyes and would charge for breathing if she could. The pool is dirty (look under with goggles...filthy) and felt like being in a tin of sardines . The depth is great which is a positive. It took me on average 20 minutes to fully shower due to the water constantly shutting off (at different times of the day but obviously much worse during busier times). We all got fed up of the long walk to and from the beach and the main strip for restaurants (yes we did know the distance to the beach/shops but we underestimated how frequently we would be making the walk often twice a day). Plenty of lovely places to eat a long the main road and beach front with very friendly staff. The Maria is not suitable for people who are unable to use stairs but I guess if you needed better access you would look into this. We are generally quite healthy but we really struggled with taking our heavy cases up and down from our rooms on the top floor and climbing the stairs multiple times a day. I can't put my finger on exactly why I couldn't bare this place...and I never ever write reviews but i do feel quite strongly about my dislike for this place. There is a really lovely hotel at the back called the Panos (I think)...if you are staying in this area I would definitely recommend that hotel over this any day. However, lots of people did seem quite happy with this place...although i am baffled as to why.

Enjoyable stay but needs improvements
These apartments are in general fine but for self catering requirements very poor due to the lack of kitchen equipment and space. We had room 12 basic as you’d expect. air con was hit and miss but was rectified as soon as reported, when leaving the room there was an out building with smoke coming out of the chimney most of the day the smell was horrendous and as a result could not leave windows open. We could smell the smoke on our clothes when we started unpacking when we arrived home The pool was also dirty towards the end of our stay many people commented that they wouldn’t go in it as unhygienic. Other than these issues the hospitality is second to none billy chris & theo are brilliant the food is good drinks too and reasonably priced.

Brutally honest review
So, theres pros and cons to this place. We booked it knowing it would be basic, but it is the most basic apartment ive ever stayed in. Advertised as self catering, but you are not capable of cooking in the tiny area, and in my opinion there isnt enough implements to cook. Its a basic plug in 2 ring hob... thats it. No toaster, no microwave and nowhere to prep food. On the other hand, the fridge freezer in our room was large and worked well.
On first inspection our room looked pretty decent, but when looking a little closer its very roughly done, messy paint work, wonky shower fixtures and mirrors
Bed was hard (like all greek beds) shame they dont have mattress toppers like many other places ive been too. Had to get blankets out of the cupboard and lay on them for extra comfort.
Our room was room 14, there was no number on our door and no door handle so you had to pull it closed using the tiny lock which was pretty difficult. We also over looked some sort of boiler room which has a huge metal chimney which seemed to blow out horrible black smoke 24/7
Our bathroom has the tiniest shower which isnt really fit for purpose unless you are a stick insect. And the floor flooded due to this, drains also smelled. Also no toilet paper given you have to buy your own, but wasnt told this on check in, which was frustrating.
All the staff were very pleasant and helpful, cant fault them at all. Drink prices at the bar were reasonable. Can't comment on food as didn't have any. No noise from bar area in the evenings.
Hotel itself is quite a bit further out than originally thought, walking across the salt flats everyday in the heat was a bit of a trek.
Alykes is beautiful and we had a lovely holiday. But I dont think i would return to the hotel.
