A very beautiful day, despite a few major service blunders.
We spent the day at the Château de Maubreuil with brunch, access to the Baths, and a massage each.
The setting is truly magnificent and the brunch is very hearty, varied, and high-quality. We ate very well, even if, personally, I still find the price of €70 per person quite high compared to other high-end brunches we have been to.
Our experience at the Baths was unfortunately more complicated. Upon our arrival, the small pool was quite rowdy with children and teenagers jumping and shouting, which made relaxing difficult. After contacting the front desk, someone intervened and the situation fortunately improved quickly.
We also encountered quite a few delays with the service at the Baths, especially for a wine and charcuterie board order that required a lot of patience and several follow-ups. The board actually disappointed us, with hard bread and rather dry cold cuts.
On the other hand, we absolutely loved the massages! We had booked one each and we both came out delighted. I have already left a specific review for Isabelle who was exceptional. This is clearly one of the great highlights of our day.
I also want to highlight the very nice reaction of the establishment at the time of our departure. Without us having asked for anything, a significant commercial gesture was spontaneously granted to us due to the wait, as well as a thoughtful gesture for my birthday. This is rare enough to be highlighted and it really allowed us to end the day on a very good impression.
We finally finished with a walk in the various gardens of the estate: a magnificent and very pleasant route despite vegetation inevitably tested by the drought.
In the end, a rather contrasting experience with real service problems at the Bains, but also a superb setting, excellent massages, and above all an establishment that knew how to spontaneously recognize the difficulties encountered and make a real gesture toward its clients. We finally left with a much better impression than in the middle of the afternoon.

Ok but could be better.
We arrived on a Sunday and were unaware the hotel only does a special brunch during the day. This mainly seemed to be for non-residents. We arrived after a bit of a drive so a snack would have been great but this wasn't possible. Luckily we travel prepared so had a few things whilst we waited for our room to be ready.
The pool is a bit strange. It is two smallish pools with one being deep and the other knee-high shallow. The kids couldn't stand in the deeper one and the shallow one is no good for swimming. The other thing is the pool bar wasn't operational which given the heat wave in France was disappointing. We were unable to have a drink or snack by the pool. I would expect this facility at a "5*" hotel.
There is a room service menu but this is a bit limited. They have a truffle croque monsieur on the menu but unfortunately my kids aren't fans of trufffle. I did ask if it was possible to have a standard version but this was told a firm "non" .
Breakfast is ok but not as good as hoped. The breakfast team seemed under-staffed so it wasn't quick service and several items had run out when we arrived at 0900. This could have just been a bad day as the third morning they were better.
If you are selling yourself as a family friendly 5* hotel then please expand the options for children.
Last thing to note- I told the hotel when we were leaving but no assistance was given to carry our bags and load up the car. Perhaps not a big deal but almost all 5* hotels I have stayed in actively sort your luggage for you. Lugging multiple bags across the car park in 35 degrees was not a great way to leave.

Pleasant family moment
We had a very good time with the family. The castle setting is superb and offers a particularly pleasant atmosphere. The service is courteous, attentive, and helps make the experience pleasant.
Overall, the brunch is of high quality. The only small downside concerns the desserts, which seemed lacking compared to the rest of the service. We particularly had the impression that some, like the macarons, were not made by the establishment's kitchen.
Despite this, we had a very good time and will return with pleasure for another family experience.

We do not recommend this hotel or its restaurant
Our suite was not in good shape. At the entrance were two yew bushes; one was dead and had not been replaced. We generally do not like upstairs/downstairs duplexes and this one was particularly uncomfortable. To go upstairs, we needed to climb a steep staircase without any handrails. It was hot and sunny when we arrived and the downstairs was very hot; it was not air conditioned and the units in the bedroom did nothing to cool the downstairs.
The downstairs looked like the photos with a large dining table and kitchen area on one side and a sitting area on the other. The décor was appropriate and the wall art interesting and very good. Rearranging the sofa and chairs in front of the TV worked for us. We were brought a fan and in the late afternoon there was a breeze and we had cross-ventilation making the downstairs more comfortable. We used the large dining table as our desks, one of us sitting at each end (we were brought extension cords for our laptops). For lunch, we sat next to each other on one side of the table. Outside there was a terrace with a sitting area that had comfortable outdoor furniture but it looked dirty. There was a table that would have been uncomfortable to sit at, without any leg room. We would not even try to sit on the metal chairs.
Upstairs, the 3 bedrooms were tiny, actually claustrophobic, with only enough room to walk around the bed and open the closet doors. In each, there was also actually room for a chair. We used two of them for our suitcases.
The air conditioning in the bedrooms “worked”, sort of, with the doors closed, but only when set at 21° or higher. In the bedroom where we slept, the air conditioning unit leaked all over the carpet. There were three sky lights that were filthy—not at all 5-star. We asked for them to be cleaned and, actually, two of the three were cleaned. Two of the sky lights did not have any shades for the night. Because it stayed light outside late at night, and was light very early in the morning, we were bothered. There should have been shades that had remote controls to operate.
We asked for help to have the bed re-made the way we like it and Pamela from housekeeping, came. She was friendly, professional, and helpful. She continued to help us during our stay and she was lovely. The staff tried to accommodate our needs.
The bathroom was only “just” large enough with two sinks. The floor of the shower was so slippery we were scared we would fall. Before we arrived, we asked for a no slip mat but none was produced even though we asked a second time. The drains in the sink had no covers and Audre was afraid a contact lens would fall in and be lost forever.
There were ants everywhere. When Audre used the toilet downstairs, ants climbed up her legs. The downstairs toilet was annoying for Audre in another way, as well. There was an automatic light that went off when she was using the toilet and she had to stand up to get it back on.
We requested the technician to help with the air conditioners and he did come. He changed the air conditioner in the bedroom where we slept and it no longer leaked. The technician also fixed our TV so that was good. Even though the technician sprayed for ants, there were still ants running around the kitchen counters.
We had dinner one night at La Table de Marquis and we had a good meal with good service (even though there were large groups as well as a baby). Our server was an adult. Most of the others working there were so young that we called them children. The dishes were as quirky as the hotel and some worked better than others.
Breakfast was not pleasant. The “children” working took our order for pain perdu (which cost a small and annoying amount extra) and it took a very, very long time to arrive. When it did, we were brought only one order. The coffee also took a very long time to arrive. The items on the buffet were “adequate” but at 9 in the morning were running low and not replaced. The breakfast was neither 5-star nor worth the price. On our second morning we ordered two porridges (at an extra charge). At last, 30 minutes later (and after requesting it 3 more times), only one porridge arrived. We left without having our breakfast. The hotel continued to annoy us until the very last moment. When we returned to our suite (without having breakfast), we tried to use our coffee maker and it was broken. It took 20 minutes for the technician to arrive to fix our coffee maker but he did fix it.
During our stay M Philppe Rousse, the owner and general manager, came to introduce himself and defend his hotel. We appreciated that.
