Good city hotel

Nice family hotel - away from the big hustle and bustle of the city. Approx. 20 minutes on foot or 5-10 minutes by bus 5, 13, or 26 to the center.
Nice garden, rich breakfast of good quality. The rooms are okay - as a flaw we would mention the strange smell in the bathroom of room 117 - that likely comes from the bathtub.
The service is correct without being overly friendly.

Hotel Catalpa, customer disdain as a motto

I had booked 2 rooms for 2 nights at the Hotel Catalpa in Annecy in May. 8 days prior, a bereavement struck us, inherently unpredictable, making this stay impossible on the original dates. I am not asking to cancel this stay but to postpone it to September, on the dates that suit the Hotel Catalpa best. The response from this hotel is astonishing: "It will not be possible to postpone your reservation because your rooms had not been resold at the time of your late cancellation. Indeed, postponing your stay without having resold your rooms would mean losing those nights for us, which we cannot afford."
In practical terms, this means: Catalpa had no requests from other clients for a stay in May (strange, right?) and could not rebook those rooms within 10 days following my postponement, but Catalpa knows at the end of June that it will be fully booked every day until the end of September (even stranger, right?).

Nous sommes surpris de lire ceci car pour une annulation 8 jours avant votre date d'arrivée, vous pouvez annuler sans aucun problème votre réservation.
En effet, les réservations sont annulables jusqu'à 3 jours avant votre arrivée.
Cependant si vous aviez réservé avec un tarif préférentiel NON ANNULABLE NON MODIFIABLE ET NON REMBOURSABLE, il est possible que le report vous est été refusé. Ce type de réservation est plus avantageux au niveau du prix c'est une réalité, mais même dans des situations d'urgences, il ne permet aucune modification.
Ne sachant pas sous quelles conditions vous aviez réservé,
Il est délicat de pouvoir vous répondre plus en détail expressément
Nous vous laissons nous fournir la date et le numéro de réservation afin de vérifier si vous avez demandé une annulation avant les 3 jours (8jours d'après vous) ou si vous aviez choisi l'option non annulable et non modifiable.

Hotel Catalpa Great stay

A fantastic stay, we stayed for 7 nights in mid June and felt that we were made very welcome the staff could not do enough to help us out with our queries, A few really nice restaurants nearby (within 200m) and a lovely boulangerie - where our very best French was giggled at and responded to in really good English :-) - only minor issue was with the AC but it was mid 30s temperature and could not below 23 on the AC - overall a great stay

It is well-located on the opposite side of the lake from the old town, which is a 25 minute walk away (there are many busses; we didn’t take them). There is a bakery and a grocery (open until 7) at the end of the block, plus a couple of pizza places and more. It was a good place to stay.

Good location but falls short of comfort .

Spouse and I arrived at the hotel and were informed that our room was two twin beds, although we requested a DOUBLE OR QUEEEN SIZE bed, as a couple. The male receptionist informed us that all rooms were sold out and nothing he could do, although our reservations were done over a month in advance. He next commented that it was what we requested, and we should speak with our conference organizer –as we were in Annecy for a conference. And again we corrected him to say we requested a double bed or queen size bed. He reiterated that there was nothing he could do, the hotel was sold out. The room was cold, and it was raining outside. When we tried the heat mode, the air conditioning would turn on lowering the temperature—we thought that was weird, but did not want a confrontation with the front desk agent and decided to wait until the next day. The next day we reported the problem with the heating and air conditioning unit, and the same agent was in attendance, and informed us that the hotel does not offer heat, only air-conditioning. We were advised to turn on the towel heater for getting heat into the room. We also requested an iron and ironing board for our room, but we were informed that there was only one of each to be shared for all of the hotel guests, and could only be used in the hallway on the ground level. We thought it odd that for a hotel with 52 rooms, with more than 52 guests would only have one iron and ironing board. Breakfast was the same daily. If you were not part of the conference attendees, who vacated the cafeteria by 8:30 am, food remains were sparse, as replacements were not made until about 9:00am, given that there was only one available food attendant. In addition, there was only one elevator, quite small, about 3 by 4 feet, and you have to climb 4-5 steps with your luggage to access the elevator. Although the hotel is in a great location, very close to the Lake, It falls short of comfort.

We are sorry that your stay did not meet your expectations and sincerely regret the inconveniences you experienced.
Regarding the room configuration, we would like to clarify the situation. The information we received with your reservation indicated that Mr. was travelling with a caregiver, rather than with his husband. The room was therefore prepared with two separate beds based on the information provided to us. We fully understand your disappointment and regret this misunderstanding. We would also like to point out that our receptionist did assist you with your luggage upon arrival.
Regarding the temperature in the room, our hotel has a central system, meaning that we have to choose between heating or air conditioning for the entire building. Following a period of very hot weather, the hotel was still operating in air-conditioning mode when temperatures temporarily became cooler during a short period of your stay. We understand that this may have been uncomfortable and regret that we were unable to offer a more suitable solution at that time.
As for breakfast, the situation was somewhat particular as we were welcoming a large group of conference participants. A large number of them left the breakfast room at the same time to catch their bus. The buffet was then replenished, meaning that guests having breakfast after the group’s departure found the buffet fully stocked again. We are nevertheless sorry if you experienced a temporary shortage of certain items during your breakfast.
We also take note of your comments regarding the iron and ironing board, the access to the lift and, more generally, the comfort of the hotel. We are aware that some aspects of our establishment may be less convenient, particularly as we are located in an older building, although we do our best to provide our guests with the greatest possible comfort.
We are nevertheless pleased that you appreciated our location, just a short distance from the lake. Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback. Your comments help us identify areas where we can continue to improve the quality of our services and welcome.
