Relaxing Stay with Excellent Service in Coron

We truly enjoyed our stay at Coron Westown Resort! From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed not only by the hotel’s friendly and honest staff but also by the genuinely warm and kind people of Coron.
Food:
Breakfast was satisfactory, but our dinner at Island Kitchen was not as great—the food was served cold and took quite a while to arrive. However, the Filipino dishes at Lameza Restaurant were delicious. If you’re traveling with foreigners, it might be better to dine outside the hotel; just ask a tricycle driver to bring you to Pacifico Restaurant.
Amenities:
The pool area is fantastic—clean, spacious, and perfect for relaxing. The bar right beside the pool was one of our favorite spots; we enjoyed cocktails and listened to a live band for an entire evening.
Spa:
I also had a relaxing massage from a very kind and friendly staff member named Jenny (if I remember correctly). It was a wonderful experience.
Tours:
The hotel can also assist in arranging tours, and the staff were incredibly helpful in organizing everything smoothly.
Overall:
We had a great time and would happily come back!

I regret staying here

⭐ 1/5 — Very disappointing experience — I would not return
I booked this resort despite seeing several negative reviews, thinking perhaps they were isolated experiences. Unfortunately, after staying here myself, I found many of those complaints to be quite accurate.
Rooms
The room had a persistent musty smell, similar to an old, poorly ventilated room. We were offered an upgrade, but the smell was still noticeable.
The air-conditioning also took a long time to cool the room. More concerning was that I left the aircon running on full cold while we were out, only to return and find that the settings had been changed by staff. I was not informed that anyone had entered the room, which made me uncomfortable enough to check my belongings afterwards. Thankfully, nothing appeared to be missing.
Service
The front desk staff were friendly and the housekeeping/domestic staff were courteous, but the actual service was inconsistent.
The resort has three pools, yet when we asked if someone could bring us a towel, we were told to go to the other end of the property and get one ourselves. For a resort, I found this particularly disappointing.
Also, if you book Westown Coron, check your booking carefully because you may be accommodated at the Annex, which is essentially an extension of the main property.
Airport transfers
We booked airport pick-up and drop-off through the resort and arranged everything with them in advance.
The van was packed with guests from different hotels and the air-conditioning was barely reaching the passengers at the back. The journey was extremely uncomfortable.
It also appeared that transfers were being combined to accommodate multiple hotels. While I understand the need to operate efficiently, this should not come at the expense of guest comfort.
Be aware that if your flight time doesn’t fit their preferred transfer schedule, you may also be required to pay an additional fee.
Location
The location was one of the biggest disadvantages for us. The resort is quite far from town and there is very little around it, meaning you are heavily dependent on transport.
The Wi-Fi was also slow, and even accessing Wi-Fi in the common areas required requesting a one-time password. This felt unnecessarily inconvenient.
Because of the distance from town, expect tricycle fares to be higher than the standard rates you may encounter elsewhere in Coron.
Overall
I genuinely wanted to give this resort the benefit of the doubt despite the negative reviews I had read before booking. Unfortunately, my experience confirmed many of those concerns.
For me, it wasn’t one particular issue that ruined the stay. It was the accumulation of poor room conditions, inconsistent service, uncomfortable airport transfers, inconvenient location and unexpected additional costs.
There are plenty of accommodation options in Coron, and based on my experience, I would recommend considering other options before booking here.
I would not return and, unfortunately, I cannot recommend this resort to other travellers.

Nice property, disappointing service

I wanted to like Coron Westown Resort because the property itself is nice, but unfortunately the customer service and overall experience were disappointing enough that I wish I had booked somewhere else.
Our experience started badly. The airport shuttle was late, and by the time it arrived, everyone else from our flight had already left. Another passenger even complained that the shuttle should have been waiting for arriving guests instead of making us wait.
I specifically booked the Premier Family Suite because I knew those rooms had been renovated, and I have no complaints about the room itself. However, on our first day, we discovered that the second bedroom in our family suite was still locked because the staff forgot to unlock it before our arrival. We had to contact the front desk to have it opened.
Check-in was frustrating. The receptionist initially tried to charge me ₱1,200 for shuttle (300x4 people) until I asked if the previous staff member had already processed part of the payment. Only then did she check and realize I only owed ₱900. She also photocopied my passport and completely forgot to return it until I reminded her.
Another inconvenience is that the hotel only provides two room keys, even for a Family Suite that accommodates six people. I have never stayed at a family hotel that limits a large group to only two key cards.
The hotel also charges guests if they want to take towels outside the property 100 pesos per towel even if you don’t use it, which feels like unnecessary nickel-and-diming. This was the first resort I’ve encountered with this policy.
We dined at both restaurants during our stay. At La Meza, the staff never offered us water—we had to ask for it ourselves. The food was generally good, but many menu items were unavailable. We ordered the squid, and although the flavor was good, it was overcooked and very rubbery.
Our experience at Shark Bar was even more disappointing. We ordered a pizza, but the crust was undercooked and doughy, and the cheese tasted unusual and didn’t seem like the typical cheese you’d expect on a pizza. It was not enjoyable. They had a guy singing one night at Shark bar and he was good.
The Wi-Fi system is outdated. Guests are given paper vouchers for internet access, and they expire after certain hours. At one point we had to return to the front desk five different times because they kept giving us vouchers that didn’t work.
The power also went out repeatedly throughout the day—around ten times during one day alone. Each outage lasted about a minute, leaving the room completely dark before the electricity came back.
Cell service is another issue. We had virtually no 5G signal at the resort, so be prepared for limited mobile data unless you’re connected to Wi-Fi.
There were also quite a few mosquitoes around the property and many flies in the breakfast buffet area, which made dining less enjoyable.
I noticed the hotel is renovating some rooms, which is great, but I believe they should focus just as much on training their staff. Most employees seemed inexperienced and lacked basic customer service skills. Before our stay, I emailed the hotel with a few questions and received little to no response. During check-in I asked if I could speak with the hotel manager, but was told he would arrive later, leaving only the front desk staff to handle guest concerns.
Another check-in issue occurred when the receptionist tried to charge us for breakfast even though it was already included in my reservation. She only corrected it after reviewing my booking confirmation.
The location is another consideration. The resort is not close to Coron Town, so expect to pay about ₱50 per person each way by tricycle if you plan to eat or explore downtown. During our stay, the resort also felt unusually quiet, with very few guests around.
Overall, the renovated rooms are nice, but the guest experience simply doesn’t match the property. Between the poor customer service, repeated check-in mistakes, outdated Wi-Fi system, frequent power interruptions, disappointing food, and numerous small inconveniences, our stay fell well below expectations. I hope management invests more in staff training and improving operations because the property has potential. Until then, I cannot recommend staying here, and I encourage future guests to read reviews carefully before booking.

The staff are very friendly. The only complaint is The resort is a bit outside of town, So you have to rely on tuktuks to get around.
