Day relaxation tour

A great option for a one-day spa. The hotel loved it.
The baths are varied, you can choose a comfortable temperature. There are swimming pools with both warm and cold water.
There's really a lot more blind outside. Take insect repellent in summer. If you're swimming in an outdoor pool in the summer, it's best not to stick out of the water for long: I was bitten by one blind eye.
The room is nice, the bed and linen are quality and comfortable.
In the shower it was difficult to adjust the water to a comfortable and stable temperature. However, there are enough showers in the spa area where you can wash in peace, so this has not become a problem.
The grounds are well-kept and beautiful, enjoyable to walk and spend time outdoors.

Pleasant experience

Perfect location, peaceful. You can feel castle vibes, romantic. The experience received corresponds to the price. We arrived on Sunday after 1 PM. We parked the car in the castle parking lot. Check in was at 3 PM so we had late lunch at a restaurant and later we went to the park. There was a lot of free space in the restaurant at this time but for evening reserve a table. Food was nice. Enjoyed it. We stayed in a park house. We were a bit disappointed that it wasn't as a house but three-story building. Rooms were clean. Had 2 small bottles of water, robes, towels, one time use slippers, 3-in1 shower gel, soap, hair caps, fridge, tv. We didn't have wardrobe just hangers. Room with extra bed (couple with a kid) had wardrobe and also glass wall between bed and bathroom. A bit weird but it had curtain to close it. Park house is connected to the castle and SPA with underground tunnel. You can walk there in robes. Take in mind that there are no lockers for personal things. We left one small bag at SPA bar. Spa expenses are added to your room bill. Don't use slippers from room for SPA because they get wet and slippery very quickly. SPA was nice. There were few saunas, different pools, jacuzzi, lounge. Felt relaxed and light when we returned to the rooms. Also at SPA Bar you can take towels and leave them after. Later after dinner we wanted to see the park at night, because we saw strings of lights during the day, but it was all dark. Only the lanterns were on. We were a little sad about that. Overall I recommend to visit this place, see the park, enjoy the SPA, climb the tower in the castle and try Restaurant Wagenküll.

Poor service

We stopped by on our way to Tõrva, wanting to enjoy a lunch and then return on Sunday to stay and enjoy the spa.
To stop by the castle, there’s an entrance fee of 20€ per adult so bear that in mind if you want to stop for lunch. We didn’t mind, walked around a bit and found the plastic and artificial flowers a bit strange.
Lunch itself — the line was not long, but was stalling (canteen style, cook giving out food on a plate in front of you), kids were tired and hot and the baby started crying, so I asked the waiter for a bit of water for him. She said “We are not allowed to give water to the guests”, verbatim.
Thankfully, someone from the kitchen helped us (I won’t specificy who, in case they really get into trouble for GIVING WATER TO PEOPLE ON A HOT DAY).
Very disappointing! We are not returning for Sunday.

Alice in Tuberculosis Hospitalland

The mega-kitsch Wagenküll reminds me so much of the old hotels on the Las Vegas Strip just before they were dynamited, because it's been rode hard and put away wet. The rooms have been remodeled, a spa has been added, but the corridors and everything else still retain the dark vibe of the tuberculosis hospital that this place once was. Except it's not as clean as a TB hospital. The windows are mostly filthy, some of them foggy with dirt, others plastered with so much seagull poop that they look like they've been vomited upon (see photo). Some of the corridors are piled high with furniture (photo). In our room--otherwise fine--the toilet wasn't bolted to the floor (see video), making it hard to use if you're not a practiced equestrian. The staff pretty much makes it clear to you that they'd rather be elsewhere. And that's just the hotel. The hotel's garden (which they charge non-guests 20 euros to see) is an Alice in Wonderland-themed park with an ungodly amount of plastic lions, neon plastic flowers, dayglo plastic trees, and a plastic Alice stuck in there somewhere, too. Las Vegas was never this cheesy. (Again, see photos.)
Let me say two nice things: (1) The restaurant has good food, and our server (Janely) was quite good, too. One pro tip for the waitstaff: When guests arrive and you seat them, offer to take a drink order immediately--they're going to need it in this hotel. (2) The part of the spa that's above ground is super.
How much does such a wonderland cost? Our room (standard double) was 230 euros per night, so I'll let you guess what I think about value for money here. The next time I want to have an experience of this quality, I'll go to a major city and do something to get arrested. All jokes aside, the Wagenküll isn't even close to delivering the value required for a 230-euro-per-night hotel room. Westerners, beware!
