Very nice and friendly family-run hotel in great location
We spent two great days in Cuenca staying at the Casa Cuencana. Our room was very spacious and the beds comfortable; everything was clean and pleasant. The kitchenette was well-equipped, and we appreciated the complimentary coffee provided. Our host Andrés was very friendly and always replied quickly when we asked him something in person or via Whatsapp. The location of the hotel is perfect, 5-10 minutes walking distance from the center with lots of small restaurants and bars very nearby (not super-quiet at night but certainly ok). We would gladly stay in this place again.

No Better Place to Stay in Cuenca
I'm a travel writer and I've stayed here several times in different rooms and I recommend it hands down.
They encourage guests to let them know of any issues and are always striving to give people the best experience.
I've stayed at cheap places and luxury places and they almost always have the best internet here, which is essential for me as I'm working. It is a couple blocks from the main square and around the corner from Cuenca's best bars are restaurants.
It is exceptionally clean and every time I come back it gets better. They are constantly upgrading. Staying at locally run accommodations is always my preference, everyone here is so lovely and they take Covid precautions very seriously here.
Honestly I don't know why they don't charge double. It's well worth the price.

no warm water
We arrive in Cuenca and find our hostel. We book a room con wifi y agua caliente. The water in the bathroom isn't warm, just lukewarm. When we complain they try to repair the water heater, however without any results. The room is quite nice and rather clean. We pay 10$/person.

Perfect stay once again!
This was my second time staying at La Casa Cuencana hostel and the place has actually expanded and gotten even cuter since 2012 when I was last there. If you are staying in Cuenca, you will be so happy if you book at this hostel. It has shared rooms and private rooms - even studios that include your own kitchenette. The family that owns the property is very nice. All of the rooms are decorative and clean. You can walk to anything you need and the vibe is friendly. There was laundry next door when I stayed this time. I don't see any photos that do this place justice and wish I had taken some.

The absolute worst place we stayed in South America!!!
We booked this place based on reviews, location and price. We have stayed in some pretty basic places on our travels but this place was just awful. We arrived at the time we said we would (5pm) to find two doors both saying the hostel name. Eventually after rattling the doors a few times a lady who spoke no English came to us and led us into one of the doors. She had no knowledge of our reservation, no idea how much we were meant to have been paying and led us to a room to ask if we liked it. I got the booking up and it turns out we were meant to be in a 'deluxe' room. She led us to another room which at face value looked ok so we accepted it. She gave us no more information at all.
THE ROOM - ceiling falling apart, beds had other people's hair in them, as did the towels. Wifi was terrible. Shower went hot and cold every minute.
THE FOOD - well I don't know as despite having a room package that included breakfast we weren't given any information about it so we never got it.
There appeared to be no one else staying in the place and despite being there for 2 days we didn't see a single member of staff in that time! We had to leave a note on the desk asking them to change the sheets.
When it came to checkout we hadn't been given any information about what time/where and we could not find anyone anywhere so we ended up just waiting in a cafe across the street to see if anyone turned up.
Absolutely terrible place, not sure how it is running!

this guest sneaked out the hostel before dawn to avoid paying for their staying. the booking website that was used to make their reservation is taking actions against this guest.this incident was recorded by our security cameras.
we do admit that, at that time, we did not have a fluent english speaker to assist you, but this is not excuse for such behavior.
the way our hostel works are explained properly in the different sites our hostel is featured and can be found in english, beside that, during check-in we provide the information our guest may need for their staying.
we are working to improve our check-in procedures, sadly some people do not provide the information required when they book thru a booking website even knowing that this third party websites do recommend to print the booking confirmation.
your rate did not included any meal, it is clearly noted on the booking web site.
cleanliness is very important for us, and once you complained about the bed linen, we took care of it right away.
we offered a free up-grade also.
we do every thing possible to satisfied our guest's expectations, unfortunately we are a not native english speakers. we compensate it with good and pro active attitude, family environment, comfortable facilities, a great price per value and an outstanding location. plus we, by our self, had restored the 3 buildings here in the old town and contributed to the development of the historic district.
this guest has written at least 5 reviews in different outlets to discredit our establishment since we took legal actions for its misdemeanor.
we ask tripadvisor staff to take down this preposterous review.
