Ok
We just came in the restaurant for some lunch, when we got our drinks it took 1 hour for the food to come and we already had our drinks by the time it came. Bad service but really good food. Wouldn’t come here again thought.

Never in my life
Was only restaurantguest there and first of all couldnt find a parkingground for my car:
no signs ore recommandations for the hotelowned existing ground, next to a school with a lot of unclear warningsigns= e v i l mismanagement!!!!
Warning for all foreign customers:
Dont trust them,if they give you only the english/german menuplan, probably with different/higher prices! In my case i asked for the daily lunchmenuplan (was 13.30h) but waiter told me that this food is out now. So i ordered from the regular (much higher priced) regular menuplan. Shortly after i was sitting at the table arrived an older czech couple an ordered from “ the daylist“ Svickova, a czech speciality.
To me ( as a german) they dont wanted to serve such food before. Are they racists ore only people with disgusting behaviour ? After i complaint at the headwaiter, he gave me a discount. Do your own decision dear reader. For me is very clear :

Dear Bern, I am very sorry that there has been a misunderstanding, probably our translations have been wrong, I think. We have two kinds of menus. 1) permanent menu - it is the same in Czech, German and English - wears the waiter to the table 2) the daily menu - always on the table - we help translate operatively. This daily menu is also in the notice board in front of the restaurant. Meals from the daily menu are cooked only in limited quantities, so it is possible that some food is already out at 13.30 and the staff offered a meal from the permanent menu. So it is possible that you wrecked badly with the waiter and the situation was poorly understood. We appreciate all our guests and we like to come back. In our interest is a satisfied customer, so I am very sorry. Many guests from Germany who are close to us regularly like to come back. I hope that if you come back to Vimperk, you will try to visit us and I can promise you that you will be satisfied. If the waiters misunderstand, I am available every day for proper help. Standard but fine
Recently refurbished, it is a very standard hotel without bad or good surprises. Not really romantic, rooms are clean and spacious. Surprisingly, the corridors smell cigarettes, it is maybe allowed to smoke there… not clear. For the breakfast, choice is to be made between some three warm possibilities, for the cheese etc. there is no buffet, the portions are predefined but everything is fresh, tasty and largely sufficient. Over the lunch time, the restaurant is absolutely full. I did not eat there but the place seems to be very appreciated by locals, maybe a good hint for the next visit!

You don't need this experience
My friend and I did a cycling trip earlier this month and selected Zlata Hvezda as it had quite favorable rating.
I should have been warned, as I made the first call. The guy, obviously the owner, asked me to call his wife. I did and she asked me to call another number? Ok, booking made eventually.
Arriving at the premises, the young guy at the reception seemed only interested in seeing our IDs. Forget any sign of hospitality.
Room reasonably OK, unless you are looking for a functioning shower...
We were tired and had a long cycling trip ahead so we paid a visit to the hotel restaurant. Menu not impressive but ok, this is quite normal in this area. What is not normal is having the same arrogant guy from the reception serving you and concluding the dinner by refusing to charge the bill to the room without giving any comprehensive reason.
Restaurant toilets comparable to those you don't even see in the public restrooms anymore.
Anyway, survivable stay but absolutely not meeting any expectations, no matter how low.

Everything seemed to be a problem
We booked directly, rather than through online broker -- thought that would make the owners happier. Calling up the number we found online to find out we should call someone's wife to book. After several attempts we got through and were pointed to yet another number (which we refused to call). Anyways, booked successfully, arrived ... to find out that the restauratnt is about to close. Tried to get the restaurant bill on the room ... "Certainly not" was an answer that seems to be the favority line of the local staff for just about anything. Nice hotel, but one can tell that if not maintained well it will be crappy sooner or later.
