A quit night in Ypres.
The next overnight stop on our journey was the “Flanders Lodge Hotel” in the city of Ypres.
It was our first time staying there. The hotel is tastefully decorated; a friendly reception and free private parking come as standard.
Our room was very spacious and featured a completely renovated bathroom with a walk-in shower and a separate toilet. It was equipped with a flat-screen TV, air conditioning, a fridge, and free Wi-Fi—in short, everything was provided, including effective air conditioning and personal care products.
The hotel has both a bar and a restaurant; we had dinner on-site, who is for us a huge advantage, and the meal was absolutely delicious and offered excellent value for money. After a great dinner, we enjoyed a very quiet night’s sleep in a comfortable bed, undisturbed by noise. The buffet breakfast was also excellent and plentiful, with everything included in the price. We have added this hotel to our list for our next trip to Belgium; it is highly recommended

Death traps galore
Firstly the positives. Breakfast was varied, plentiful and a decent quality. The bar area was fine and nice for a relaxing drink. The staff were lovely and helpful.
Now for the not so nice bits. Sorry this is long. As we walked to our first room we noticed the vinyl flooring was ripped along various places along the corridor. In the UK this would be classed as a safety hazard. No tape to hold it down of signs up to warn people. The chairs in the common parts were ripped also, so not exactly inviting should you wish to sit there. We staying in our first room for no longer than 5 mins. The tap was stuck and water was pouring out of the drainage pipe. The receptionist was extremely helpful and gave us another room without quibble. The second room had the same issue with ripped and poorly fitted flooring, the bedding was bobbled and old looking,, mattresses were rock hard, the ladders didn't hang properly on the bunk beds (another safety issue) and they creaked badly along night long. The bathroom thankfully seemed fine. After a night of little sleep we were awoken to the sound of workmen at 7.30. For 200 euros a night we would have expected much better. 2 stars given for the staff and the breakfast.

Not ok!!!
We expected more from a Best Western hotel.
The room was pretty clean. But...
The bed was hard, there was a rusted heater in the bathroom and there was a problem with the lock of door, the door could not be closed from the outside.
At check-in they asked for 1 name, no address, no phone number, so in case of a fire they do not know who is staying at that time.
Breakfast was disappointing.
There were large dust nets hanging from the ceiling and the lights were flashing.
The staff does not greet the guests, you do not get a 'good morning' at all.
The bread and the mini coffee cakes were not fresh.
At 8.30am there was already a knock on the door ́housekeeping, a ticket ́do not disturb ́ is not available.
What was once a good and beautiful hotel is now somewhat deteriorated.
We're not going back!

Simple but surprisingly good hotel.
Quietly located within walking distance (2 km) of the main market of Ypres. Neat room with good beds, mini fridge, air conditioning, walk-in shower and separate toilet. Full breakfast and very friendly service by every member of staff. Free parking and storage of bicycles; as well as charging possibility.

Quality hotel in Ieper
We based ourselves here for the Belgian part of our Battlefield Tour. A party of 23 people catered for with no hassle at all. Great size of rooms catered for all. Breakfast also very good in the morning. Will certainly return. The atmosphere was also good throughout.
