Le Château de Rendeux
Set in a small, renovated castle overlooking the Ourthe River, Le Château de Rendeux provides nostalgic charm in the heart of the Belgian Ardennes. Its restaurant offers French gastronomy. All heated guest rooms have wooden floors and offer views of castle or courtyard. Each unit comes with a seating area, work desk and free cable internet. The en-suite bathroom has a bath and hairdryer. Situated in the castle’s cellars, the restaurant offers French cuisine with seasonal à la carte menus, and the best choice of French vintage wines. The bar offers a wide variety of drinks. Le Château de Rendeux is a 20-minute drive from La-Roche-en Ardennes and 30 minutes from Houffalize. A place to get away
The facilities are quite comfortable and clean, There was no shower in our room but no matter. Breakfast was superb. The conversations throughout were enjoyable. Great hospitality.
I don't know when we will ever travel that road again but Le Chateau will definitely be on our itinerary.

Sleeping in a castle
Sleeping in a castle. It speaks to the imagination a bit. Large stately rooms, large high spaces where the king used to sit on the throne. A royal breakfast. A very big plus (for us). Dogs are allowed and can also be brought into the dining room for breakfast.
The reality is something different.
Location.
The castle is located along the main road. There is a supermarket right next to the castle. And along the same main road you can find an ATM and some places to eat. You can enjoy lovely walks in the immediate area.
The castle
When you enter the driveway and drive to the castle, you can already see that it needs some attention. The garden looks wild and it all looks a bit neglected. There is ample parking space in front of the castle.
Check-in goes very smoothly. And you get an old-fashioned key. If you are still leaving, please leave this at the reception. This way the manager knows that there are still people outside the door and the entrance is not locked.
The rooms
The rooms look a bit dated. A large bed, not a box spring with a nice duvet, but a feather mattress with a sheet and a thick blanket. The bed is very sensitive, if one moves, the entire mattress moves. Very thin and soft pillows. Much too thin for us. Furthermore, a desk, table with 2 chairs and a small TV. Just curtains on the windows. No air conditioning. It was not warm the night we were there, but the room was a bit stuffy. If you open the window (equipped with anti-mosquito netting) it will be a bit cooler, but then you will also have the sounds you hear from outside.
The bathroom has a bath. You also stand there to use the shower. No shower cubicle, curtain or anything. So the whole bathroom gets wet when you take a shower. Furthermore, a sink with soap and of course a toilet. Sidenote, we had the dog room (our dog was with us).
Furthermore, there are 2 glasses in the room, but no drinks. No bottle of water, no minibar, no coffee or tea making facilities. Nothing. There is a wardrobe and a safe. The WiFi in our rooms was very poor.
Breakfast
The breakfast is very simple but sufficient. You have breakfast downstairs in the hall. There is a basket of (choco) croissants on the table. There is also a table with some meat and cheese and some tubs with butter, chocolate spread and jam. There is also baguette and other bread. Coffee, tea, water, juice and chocolate milk are also included. At the table you are asked if you want a boiled egg. Don't expect a large buffet with salmon, sandwiches and lots of delicacies. As said, simple but sufficient.
Overall the experience was okay. The area is fairly quiet. The beds and pillows could be better, we didn't sleep very well. The simple but sufficient breakfast was ok. The whole, the furnishings and the garden need some attention. We were there for walking and it is a good place for that. There are more than enough beautiful walking routes in the area.

Not bad but we can do better ☺️
The property is pretty and the exterior is well maintained.
The rooms were spacious.
Breakfast was good (pastries at the table, juice, tea, coffee, cold meats, bread, yogurt, butter, jam).
The owner was friendly.
The park is pretty.
Nice parking lot.
A little in its original form and impersonal in terms of the decoration of the rooms (shame for a place with so much character).
No air conditioning in the rooms (it was hot there!).
No fridge in the rooms. Which is all the more annoying since the bar was not available.
The box spring in one of the bedrooms was catastrophic (extremely noisy).
Spiders in the rooms.
No bench to enjoy the outdoors.
The smell of cigarettes at reception.

the outside is great
the check in was ok then went to the large double room and thats where it all went wrong
we paid for deluxe and soon found out there was no fridge no water,tea,coffee,or even a kettle
the bathoom had no shower screen and a shower that did not function and a very deep bath that was not easy to get in and out
the bedroom has lots of blood stains on the walls and ceilings where people have been killing what ever the insects were and they had not been cleaned
breakfast was ok a bit strange as the coffee came in a large style canteen themos and the usual foods for a continental breakfast while the owner watched that nobody left the resto with any food
i would recommend a visit to the outside and the surrounding park areas but not to stay an evening
