Beautiful historic site. Ignore the whingeing reviews - they are completely unfair.
Wonderful experience; we'll be back. With an anniversary coming up, I responded to an ad on Facebook for a 'winter break' and initially that booking experience turned out to be not great, which I've given them feedback on. Once that got sorted, and we arrived, it was five stars from then on. If you are interested in history - ie in people's lives and tragedies - you will absolutely love this place. If you aren't, it would probably be wasted on you. The fact that most buildings are either completely intact from the late 1880s or very faithful rebuilds is quite incredible. Their transformation into 21st century accommodation without damaging the exteriors is a fantastic achievement. The bush location with sea vistas is stunning. The stained glass in the old first-class diningroom is magnificent, and looking out through it to the Canary Island palms and the sea as the sun was setting - wine in hand - was so memorable. Ditto with watching sunset from the gorgeous beach. It's worth checking the site map on the website before you book, to get a feel for the site and its distance from Manly.
Be aware that while the accommodation is available all week, and so are the tours, the food is not - it's restricted to Fri, Sat and Sun. This makes it more convenient if you have a car, rather than relying on public transport. You can get a bus from Manly Wharf/city centre, but it stops at about 7.30pm; after that you'd need to get an Uber. It's manageable with a bit of planning, but you just need to be aware beforehand. The shuttle from Reception to your door runs 24 hours, I believe.
We did the two daytime history tours and both were very worthwhile.
We ate dinner at the Boilerhouse both nights. The menu is small and pretty good; we chose better the second night. Main meals were too large for me - half a chicken is way too much! We ended up sharing a few items between us, tapas style - one large main, a couple of entrees, and a vegetable dish. Wine list not bad. Service very pleasant.
Reading some of the really nasty reviews on here reminds me that you need a thick skin if you want to work in customer service! The review from Emily L in Mar 2026 particularly struck me - 'the waiters spoke in their own language which made me feel uncomfortable' - wow!!! - that says a lot more about her than it says about this hotel. I've read the past 100 or so reviews, and I can say for sure that all the one-star and two-star ratings are completely unjustified, if judged by the standards of a normal person. I suggest you ignore them - but do take into account what I've said above - if you adore the anonymity and soullessness of a Holiday Inn or prefer the luxury of a Hilton, you will probably not appreciate this place, so do us all a favor and don't bother coming.
Although we did two tours and walked the site all day, we still didn't see all its nooks and crannies, nor the museum. It's a beautiful place, faithfully restored, an absolute delight - we will definitely be back.

Old rooms - very sad place - won't come back
I am staying here right now and I am more than disappointed.
The furniture is old and broken, the couch has so many stains you don't want to sit on it.

This was our second stay at Q Station, this time in a Basic Queen Room as we were attending a wedding offsite.
A tip for first-time visitors: you can’t drive directly to your room and need to use the shuttle service, but we found it very efficient and easy to use. The room was clean, comfortable and had everything we needed. The curtains were excellent and did a great job blocking out the morning sunlight.
The buffet breakfast was okay, fairly basic, but the staff across all areas were fantastic, friendly and helpful throughout our stay.
Overall, another enjoyable stay and we’d happily return.

Hidden Gem
Stayed here to watch the recent Fleet Review in Sydney Harbour. This hotel really is a hidden gem with comfortable and quiet rooms offering an awesome nights sleep. The rooms are refreshing but do lack air conditioning but with the high ceilings this did not matter. They felt fresh. There were stunning views outside and the bed was comfortable to sleep in. The location is ideal being close to Sydney heads and at bargain prices at that.

Lovely stay. Clean room but not air conditioned so can be hot on warmer days. Staff very welcoming. Travel light as u need a shuttle bus to room or it’s a 5-8 min walk to accommodation
