Heritage Cottage Gives a real Rottnest Experience

We had an overnight stay in a North Thompson Heritage Cottage and it truly made for a Rottnest Experience. It's great to stay over on Rottnest anyway, but the cottage undoubtedly added to the whole experience. Being just out of the centre of the Thompson Bay Settlement it's convenient for all the facilities, but quite quiet once the day trippers have left.
The Heritage Cottage makes for a true experience (with pluses and minuses) and we would definitely recommend staying over on the island and using one of these cottages for the experience.
The cottage was a characterful old property with two bedrooms, sitting room and kitchen, all well equipped. From the booking we had not realised that the bathroom facilities were outside the cottage but we accepted that as part of the character and took their "functional" nature as part of the experience. The night we stayed was quite warm but the heritage cottage probably helped with not overheating however we wanted to use a fan for sleeping. Unfortunately the fans in the property were so loud, even on minimum speed, that we felt we would be unable to sleep: we got by opening the window.
Despite the issues we would happily return and would like to have stayed longer.

We stayed in a 6 berth cabin in the camping ground area. Great location, an electric large mobile heater and a large wall mounted fan are excellent additions. There is virtually no wifi although they do tell you at check in that it is free, (occasionally it turns up), but it drops out continuously so dont count on having it. There is also no tv in the cabins and you cant hire them any more.

Sun, Sea, Sand and Quokkas

Thomson bay 4 bed bungalow. Excellent renovated bungalow nice and homely with everything you need. First visit in 5 years post Covid, and surprising. Very high standard of renovations to the kitchen, bathroom and bedrooms. Great location and overall worth the cost.
