Great

Incredibly friendly, helpful service that made it possible to find solutions even for time-consuming problems (organizing taxis several times outside of their working hours in the evenings), good food, beautiful, typical atmosphere.

Worst hotel ever

At 1/2 price this hotel would have been too expensive. The previous night we stayed at the Brassey Hotel in Canberra it was cheaper, luxurious, had air-conditioning and was far superior. Our room at the Highlands was very old and dated. The bathroom facilities were shared and reminiscent of a boys boarding school from the 1980’s. The room was as hot as a sauna and only had a small pedestal fan.
We asked if we could upgrade to a room with air conditioning but were told because we had booked through booking.com we would need to pay full price for another room.

Not for me

Pros - easy parking in close proximity and room was clean. Easy walking distance to local restaurants and bars.
Cons - uncomfortable bed, unfriendly staff, room not serviced and constantly woken from doors slamming from other occupants.
Did not try the restaurant or the bar so unable to comment.
Would not stay again.

Bistro not as good as it used too.

Food from the bistro is no longer any good. Chicken schnitzel no longer comes with any chicken in it. Yuck! They nolonger make their own but get it in frozen. Mash no longer tastes like it used too either. We ordered chicken schnitzel and the ribs, have ordered before, and been here many times. But will not come again, over salted Food, was rubbish. Feel sorry for the staff always friendly and place it kept clean and inviting.

Really Good Australian Pub Meals!

We are a family of five who had dinner on a Friday night.
Luckily we booked a table late afternoon as the whole dining area was full by 6:30pm (Got the impression that most patrons were locals).
The food was really good, robust Australian pub food ( not gourmet ), and the serves where generous.
We all had different meals - ribs, parma, burger, steak and bangers w mash - and we where really happy with what was served.
