Good apartment ruined by persistent sewer smell

The apartment itself has several good points: excellent location, comfortable bed and sofa bed, nicely furnished with a small balcony, and a very well-equipped kitchen (coffee machine, kettle, toaster, microwave, hand blender, washing machine, etc.).
Unfortunately, a strong recurring sewer-gas smell was present almost every day, often strong enough to wake us up in the morning. We had to open the balcony doors frequently to ventilate. It was surprising that only one February review mentions this issue. The host sent a plumber twice (first visit was very brief, the second left an air freshener), but it made no difference. When we asked for compensation, the host refused point-blank. Booking.com eventually offered only a small goodwill gesture.
The apartment was generally clean but hadn’t been swept or mopped before arrival. No basic supplies (tea, coffee, salt, oil, etc.) were provided. The washing machine worked but was extremely noisy.
If you are sensitive to bad smells, I would not recommend this apartment. The constant odour made our stay horribly unpleasant despite the good location and facilities.
