Fantastic hotel, lovely grounds and delicious food
We really enjoyed our stay, the bed was very comfortable, the room was cosy and well appointed. The bath was big and deep, with plentiful hot water to fill it. All the staff we met were so friendly and helpful. There are lovely grounds to have a walk in, either along the river or in the woodland. The highlight of our stay was the delicious food, everything was cooked perfectly. We will definitely return, thank you.

Great highland retreat with fine dining
A fabulous country house hotel very conveniently located if travelling the NC500, or just a beautiful peaceful, tranquil and relaxing place to stay for no reason at all other than to walk the beautiful area, enjoy the falls in the grounds and indulge in a
wonderful fine dining experience. Amazing friendly & welcoming staff. Evening dinner was an absolute joy, fabulous menu from start to finish with all dishes perfectly executed, perfect champagne by the glass and an excellent wine list.
The hotel is very close to the Castle of Mey, Dunnet Head and John O’Groats. Highly recommend.

The reception was already snooty and unfortunately it continued negatively: The room was quite large but cool, the heating in the bathroom dripped, the towels did not appear quite fresh. The restaurant is particularly bad, although the food itself was still halfway. The snooty service in the restaurant can hardly mask the bad organization, the tables are very tight. Breakfast was downright disastrous in terms of service

Regarding the room, we do our best to maintain a comfortable environment, and our towels are laundered fresh daily, so it’s unclear why you found them less than satisfactory. Similarly, I’m surprised to hear about the heating issue in the bathroom, as this is something we typically address promptly with our maintenance team.
As for the restaurant, we regularly receive compliments on the quality of our food and the service, though I understand that everyone has different expectations. The tightness of the seating arrangement is something that’s been discussed, and we’re considering ways to improve the layout without sacrificing the intimate atmosphere we aim to create.
I’m also curious about your comments on the breakfast service, as this is another area where we typically receive high marks. Delightful birthday treat!
We stayed on a dinner, bed and breakfast package. The staff were very frienly and helpful, the room was clean, the bed and pillows were lovely and soft on my old joints! The meal was fantastic and we had a lovely walk to see the mill from all angles.
My only complaint was that the room was very hot, even with the window open!

Another wonderful visit to Forss House
Forss House is a lovely getaway spot. Beautiful historic home in a wonderful country setting. Stayed here 20 years ago and really enjoyed it. Still maintains its high standards. Rooms are spacious, quiet and well appointed. Staff is very friendly and attentive. Lovely bar with a great selection of whisky and gin. Meals are superb. We’ll be back. Our highest recommendation.
