A relaxing retreat with a wonderful garden

This great hotel a bit outside the city is a relaxing retreat. It has only three rooms and the owner takes care of everything on his own. The garden is an oasis of calmness, you can easily spend hours there - talking and listening to the sounds of nature. The food is delicious, don't miss the breakfast before heading out to the city. We really enjoyed our time at Mahishe Cottage and highly recommend this place.

Really enjoyed my stay here. The owner was very accommodating and very helpful. The morning breakfast is the best.. Everyday I looked forward for the breakfast. If you know what u want you can request. I suggest to try the poori with the spicy Coconut chutney

Perfect base to explore Jaffna

The owner made us feel extremely welcome and nothing was too much trouble for him. The breakfast was delicious and traditional and the room extremely clean and tidy. Wonderful guest house- would highly recommend!

Cute family with traditional breakfast

We were warmly welcomed by the owner and his wife and daughter when we arrived in Jaffna. They offered us some tea and gave us some great advice about what to do and see in Jaffna. The rooms were clean, comfortable and cool with nice air conditioning and a good shower. Really quiet location and they offer bike/motorbike rentals if needed. We enjoyed the traditional breakfast as apposed to most other places that serve only toast!

Lovely family

When we first arrived I thought "ups, that's looking a bit less kept up than the pictures" as the outside of the house and the garden could do with a little TLC. But the room and bathroom were absolutely fine. We also had AC, which was heaven sent in the Jaffna heat. Upon arrival you receive the Sri Lankan curd and honey, which is sooooo yummy and got me addicted for the rest of the trip. The owners are super nice and helpful. One night the water ran out while my boyfriend was in the shower (water tank was emtpy) but I texted Damesh and he solved the problem immediately. We got free water for our stay and there was fruit as well. The little table outside the house is where all us guests sat and chatted one evening, which was really nice.
The breakfast was typical Sri Lankan and very good.
There is a temple not too far away so you might be woken up early in the morning (like 5am) by the singing.
Walking to the fort will take 1.15 hrs along the main road. That was not a smart idea with the traffic and heat.
