Not really a motel, but rooms are nice enough

We booked this stay as ‘Hotel Pristan’ a 4* hotel; the confirmation came back from a Motel Barka, and we ended up staying in what is in reality a student residence. The explanation is simple: the old Hotel Pristan is no more, it has become a student residence, that is marketed under the name of Motel Barka. Booking.com should be more honest and transparent to completely remove the Hotel Pristan 4* description from its website. Checking is a bit of an ordeal – you have to ge to the 2nd floor of a neighbouring student hostel that functions as the reception to get your keys. There is no staff on site in where your room is, the Motel Barka. There is some free parking, but a few hundred metres from your room, at the student dorm site. Having said that, the room was surprisingly large, bright and comfortable, with a large refrigerator, a cooking top, air condition and balcony. Surprisingly, there is no TV in the room. The Wifi worked well, and the old town is about a 15 min walk away. All things considered, an acceptable and even comfortable room, but don’t expect hotel facilities.

The hotel is old and not up to date. Our room smelled like cigarettes. The staff was rude and not friendly. Also, breakfast was terrible, food was questionable and we were told that the cook doesn't know what a poached egg is. There is not enough parking spaces. Would definitely not reccomend.

Summer vacation

We stayed here for 1 night while travelling through slovenia with the car. It was 100€ for 2 adults, we got a massive appartement of a room. The bathroom also had a bath, and everything else was available ( tv, airco, room service, bar, etc ). Staff was friendly. It's about a 10-15 minute walk to the center/beach area of koper. Would recommend!

Not 4*

The hotel is near the port so if you have office or work in this area then its ideal. Soon as you walk through the door, the hotel looks a little dated.
My room was clean but its a really strange layout, it basically has office furniture in one room with a sofa and then two single beds which I found a little weird as the room was booked as a double. As I was there for 2 nights only I didn't complain.
There is a basic mini bar with average prices, if your looking to get food or a snack late on the hotel has nothing downstairs and found that they weren't really keen to get involved in ordering food or directing me anywhere.
I would stay again due to the location but hopefully only for a small period of time

Load out operations

I come 5-10 times to Koper for vessel load out operation. This is a very good location to the port and walking distance from the city center and shopping malls too. Hotel is a basic one but rather good if you are just sleeping in the room and don’t want more.
Large rooms, good wifi, good lunch served, very basic breakfast. Staff is very kind and helpful.
